Kunawarritji is a remote Indigenous community located approx 755kms east of Port Hedland. The business is owned by the local indigenous organisation and comprises a Store (Supermarket) which is the main retail grocery outlet in the town of Kunawarritji, together with accommodation units. Given the location of the town the level of trade through the business is very seasonal and fluctuates with the traditional tourist travel patterns. The community is on the Canning Stock Route, WA. The Store also employs support staff from the local community with primary duties including unpacking stock, stocking shelves, customer service / check-out and other assigned tasks. The continuation of this role is currently under review, and alternative arrangements are being considered in terms of how this function can be completed. There is self-service fuel available on the premises. The community is currently having 4 recent houses built and all houses in the community are revising an upgrade.
The Position
The role of Manager is supported by community staff in carrying out duties in the following areas:
In terms of financial reporting and monitoring an external Bookkeeper and Accountant will be engaged to perform the data entry, accounts preparation and BAS reporting tasks associated with the business.
However, it is expected that the Manager will have a sound knowledge of SmartRetail software packages and be accomplished in interpreting and understanding key financial statements.
The expected hours of duty for the Manager will vary throughout the year however the Manager is expected to be on call during business operating hours.
The Store will trade seven (7) days a week from 8am – 5pm between the months of April – October; and six days a week Saturday 9 to 13 between the months of November – March.
The Manager works a 5 day week with support staff filling the role on the remaining 2 days (seasonal, above).
Daily operation of the Kunawarritji Store and Accommodation
- Management of Store inventory and stock control, including ordering
- Allocation of daily tasks to all staff associated with the store, accommodation
- Preparation and lodgement of daily banking including daily reconciliation of sales
- Management of all inward and outward correspondence
- Responsible for business compliance with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements e.g. fuel storage, handling, stowage of chemicals etc
- Responsible for all human resource management matters
- Responsible for the overall presentation of the property is maintained to a high standard ensuring that facilities are kept clean and essential services in good working order
- Responsible for the development of an annual marketing plan for the business (to be developed in accordance with the budget set by the owners)
- The Manager is expected to engage with the local community in order to raise the profile of the business and encourage patronage.
- Furthermore, the Manager is expected to make every effort to employ local indigenous people in the business.
Conditions
- Annual Salary: $92,000
- Annual Leave: 6 weeks
- Accommodation: 2BR House, including utilities, rent-free
- Vehicle: Provided for work purposes
- Additional Leave: 2 weeks annually, isolation leave
- Extras: 3 x return airfares to perth
