Job Description
n
Located in the Crestmead area, we are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer ready to take ownership of design and development projects that make a real impact in the Defence & Rocket building industry.
n
You will need to be an Australian Citizen who can obtain a Defence Security Clearance – NV1
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:n
n
- Lead engineering phases, ensuring on-time, high-quality project delivery
n
- Design/process FMEA, and geometric dimensioning & tolerancing.
n
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with propulsion, electrical, software, manufacturing, range operations, and quality to integrate mechanical systems seamlessly.
n
- Eliminate failure modes and support product development and re-engineering initiatives
n
- Contribute to QMS audits
n
- Documentation and Compliance: Maintain technical documentation and ensure designs meet safety standards, quality standards and regulatory codes.
n
- Demonstrate a robust sense of ownership for projects and products and become a subject matter expert for stakeholders
n
- Assist & mentor the Engineering design team
n
About you:n n
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or related engineering
n
- Proficiency with parametric CAD (Autodesk Fusion or equivalent) and PDM/PLM for revision control and release management
n
- 5 years + experience.
n
- Experience with prototype building, jigs, fixtures,
tooling, and manufacturability optimization.
n
- Proficiency with parametric CAD (Autodesk Fusion or equivalent) and PDM/PLM for revision control and release management
n
- Knowledge of design for manufacture and advanced manufacturing techniques
n
- Experience in compliance documentation, reporting, and regulatory standards.
n
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and ability to work independently or cross-functionally under pressure.
n
- Experience within an AS9100 QMS — engineering change control (ECR/ECO), non-conformance management and configuration discipline as practice, not theory
n
- Australian citizenship and eligibility to hold an Australian Government security clearance
n
Highly Desirable:n n
- Experience in mass manufacturing
n
- Experience with DFM/DFA/DFS principles
n
- Finite element modelling (FEA)
n
- Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
n
- Interface management (ICDs) across multi-disciplinary teams
n
- Familiarity with defence export controls (ITAR/EAR/Australian Defence Trade Controls)
n
- Exposure to specialist domains: mechanisms and separation systems, pressure vessel or motor case design, thermal, composites, or additive manufacturing
n
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and interns
n
Certificationsn n
- CPEng, RPEQ or equivalent
n
