Heinz left Germany and settled in Melbourne in 1938 where he commenced employment with Batagols of Carlton and he met Benny Goldfarb. After the end of the Second World War in 1945 the two formed a partnership and Continental Kosher Butchers opened in High Steet, St Kilda.

In 1957, Heinz bought out Benny and continued trading in St Kilda before re-locating the business to 155 Glenferrie Road, Malvern in 1972.

Stephen A. Lewis, a great nephew of Heinz’s second wife Paula commenced working for Heinz in February 1976 and at that time the business employed only a handful of staff.

Heinz continued to own and operate the business until he passed away in November 1992, at which time Stephen became Managing Director of the company.

Maintaining family traditions, in May 2005, Stephen’s son Daniel commenced employment with the company and serves as its General Manager.

From that brief history, we are a family owned and run meat retail and wholesale establishment since 1945. We maintain family values in all facets of our operation. Our state of the art manufacturing facility is in Moorabbin and there is ample parking available onsite. Our central Malvern location is easily accessible. We process beef, lamb, and smallgoods. We have stayed operational for the entire duration of Melbourne's lock downs and kept all of our employees employed. We are an essential service and have made consistent hours available for our staff whilst maintaining a high standard of COVID safe practices.

4 am starts | 1-2 positions. Hands-on labouring and manual handling in our production department. This is sustained, physically demanding work in a challenging meat-processing workplace. You will handle and move product, follow processing and hygiene procedures, and help keep production moving safely.

Order picking and packing

5 am starts | 1-2 positions. Pick and pack meat orders, read picking lists, check products, quantities and weights, and handle stock safely. Practical literacy, numeracy and attention to detail are essential for accurate orders.

What you will need

Reliable attendance and a dependable way to reach Moorabbin for the required early start.

The physical capacity to perform the relevant manual tasks safely throughout the shift.

The ability to understand work and safety instructions and follow food safety and hygiene procedures.

Australian work rights and availability that cover the agreed roster.
