Role Description

The Midwife Clinical Specialist is an on-site role based in Tennant Creek, NT, providing advanced midwifery care and clinical leadership in maternity services. This role includes conducting comprehensive antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal assessments; coordinating and delivering evidence-based midwifery care; and supporting culturally safe care for diverse communities. The Midwife Clinical Specialist will mentor and support midwifery and nursing staff, contribute to clinical education and orientation, and participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits. Day-to-day responsibilities also include collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, contributing to clinical guidelines and protocols,



and engaging with families and community services to support safe pregnancy and birth outcomes. This is a full-time position with a strong focus on remote and regional health service delivery.

Qualifications

- Current registration (or eligibility for registration) as a Midwife with the relevant professional board and demonstrated advanced clinical midwifery experience.
- Proficiency in antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care, including risk assessment, care planning, and management of complex pregnancies and births.
- Experience providing culturally safe, person-centered care, preferably within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities or other remote and diverse populations.
- Demonstrated ability to provide clinical leadership, mentoring, and education to midwifery, nursing, and allied health staff.
- Strong skills in interdisciplinary teamwork, communication, and collaboration within hospital and community-based settings.
- Experience in clinical governance, quality improvement, incident review, and implementation of evidence-based practice.
- Competence in electronic health records, clinical documentation, and basic digital health systems.
- Relevant postgraduate qualification in midwifery, clinical leadership, or a related field (or progress toward such qualifications) is highly desirable.
- Capacity to work in remote and regional environments, including flexibility, resilience, and sound problem-solving skills.
