The skills you've already built might be exactly what this job needs.
If you're working in communications, journalism, research or project management and you're good at getting to the bottom of a problem and getting people on board with an idea, you may already be most of the way to being a outstanding Conference Producer. You don't need to have worked in events before. You need to be curious, commercially minded, and comfortable picking up the phone.
A note on what this role actually is: Conference Producer is a research, content and strategy role, not an event operations or logistics role.
We're also keen to hear from recent graduates, particularly those from a Bachelor of Arts in Communication (Social Inquiry), Bachelor of Communications (Social & Political Science), or similar communications, media or social science degrees. If your degree trained you to research, question and communicate, you already have the foundation for this role.
Who tends to thrive in this role
- Journalists : you already know how to get someone talking and find the real story
- Project managers : you know how to keep five moving parts on track at once
- Researchers : you're comfortable getting to grips with a complex issue quickly
What the job actually is
Think of it as researcher, journalist, relationship-builder, content creator and project manager, rolled into one role:
- Research : Talk to senior leaders and experts to find out what's actually keeping their industry up at night.
- Create : Turn what you learn into a conference program people want to attend.
- Connect : Build relationships with senior professionals and persuade them to share their expertise on stage.
- Think commercially : Every event has to work for the people who attend it and for the business. You'll learn to hold both.
- Manage : Juggle several events at different stages at once, without losing the thread on any of them.
- Deliver : Work with our Event Operations team to see your program come to life onsite.
You'll get there working alongside experienced producers and our Head of Production, with real mentoring and support along the way.
Whatever your background, we're looking for someone who is:
- Curious, and genuinely interested in learning new industries and topics fast
- A confident communicator who builds rapport quickly, including with senior stakeholders
- Persuasive, without needing to be pushy
- Organised enough to manage competing priorities without letting things slip
- Interested in the commercial side of things, not just "is this interesting" but "will this work"
- Comfortable taking feedback and adjusting quickly
