Job Description
Applications are invited for a one-year non-ongoing, full-time position for an Electorate Officer A in the office of the Hon Josh Wilson MP, based in the Member's Electorate Office in Fremantle, Western Australia.
n
The successful applicant will be values-driven person who wants to be involved in the work of an office that seeks to make a difference in the Fremantle electorate and in the national parliament. This role would suit someone who holds a strong interest and experience in digital media and is motivated by the importance of public service, public policy, social justice, and shared wellbeing.
n
This contract is for an initial period of 12 months, with the possibility for ongoing employment following the backfilling arrangement.

Position overview
n
The Electorate Officer A – Digital Media will play a key role in developing and delivering the Member's digital communications and supporting the broader communications and community engagement work of the electorate office.
n
The position has a particular focus on the creation of engaging, accurate information, and timely content across the Member's social media channels, website, eDMs and other digital platforms.
n
The role will suit a creative, organised and community-minded person who has strong written and visual communication skills, understands digital and social media, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced political environment.
n
As part of a small team, the position also requires a willingness to contribute to the broader work of the electorate office, including constituent service, events, correspondence and administrative tasks.
n
The key duties of the position include but are not limited to:
n
n
- Planning, creating, delivering and managing information, and engaging and dynamic content for social media, the Member's website, e-bulletins, and other digital communications content.
n
- Photography, videography, graphic design, and text production.
n
- Responding to constituent needs and enquiries.
n
- Local travel may be required for this role, and irregular work hours, including outside of standard business hours and some weekends.
n
- Promote, support and maintain a secure, respectful and inclusive workplace culture.
n
- Other duties as required to support the Parliamentarian and the effective operation of the Electorate Office.

Applicants should possess the following skills, experience, and personal qualities:
n
n
- A creative outlook with a specific interest in the creation of high-quality, compelling digital content.
n
- Skill and demonstrated experience in digital communications, social media, content creation, journalism, marketing, media photography, videography, graphic design or a related field.
n
- Excellent written communication skills and the ability to write clearly and effectively for a range of audiences and platforms.
n
- Strong organisational ability and attention to detail.
n
- A natural interest in public service, government, and politics.
n
- An aptitude for working with people, being team-oriented, adaptable, and emotionally intelligent.
n
- Demonstrated professional integrity and the ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.
n
- A respectful demeanour when engaging with office staff and constituents.

Employment conditions:
n
The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2024-27 which include:
n
n
- A commencing salary between $77,071 and $81,594 will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills
n
- An additional optional allowance up to $24,008 may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work and any travel requirements.
n
- Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).
n
- An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.
n
n
Applicants should note the following:

- An initial probationary period of three months will apply.
n
- Staff may be subject to automatic cessation triggers in accordance with Section 14 of the MOP(S) Act.
n
- The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain an Australian Government security clearance (Negative Vetting Level 2) and comply with the Ministerial Staff Code of Conduct.
n
- The successful applicant will be required to comply with their obligations under the Behaviour Codes and Standards.
n
