Veterinarian | Behaviour Medicine & Stress-Free Practice
Help us change the way pets experience veterinary care.
Some veterinarians are happiest in surgery.
Some love internal medicine.
And some can't stop wondering why patients behave the way they do.
If you've ever found yourself spending extra time helping a fearful dog feel safe, questioning whether restraint was really necessary, or wishing you could treat both the medical problem and the emotional one—you might be exactly who we're looking for.
At Murray River Animal Hospital, behaviour isn't an add-on. It's part of how we practise medicine.
We're looking for a veterinarian with an interest in behaviour medicine to join our growing team. Whether you've already completed additional behaviour training or are simply passionate about learning more, we'd love to hear from you.
About us
Murray River Animal Hospital is a privately owned, Certified Stress-Free veterinary clinic in the Albury-Wodonga region.
We're one of the few clinics where behaviour principles influence almost every appointment. We believe better emotional welfare leads to better medicine, safer handling, stronger client relationships and better long-term patient outcomes.
Our team includes:
- 8 veterinary nurses
We work predominantly with dogs and cats, along with occasional wildlife and exotic patients.
Our appointments are intentionally designed around calm, customised care, supported by excellent nursing, longer consultation times and a team-oriented team culture.
The role
This position would suit a veterinarian who:
- Has a genuine interest in behaviour medicine or wants to develop one
- Has patience for helping fearful, anxious or reactive patients
- Believes handling should be adapted to the individual patient—not the other way around
- Wants to practise evidence-based medicine with compassion
- Understands that successful treatment plans must balance medical, behavioural, financial and practical considerations
- Values respectful communication with clients and colleagues
- Enjoys working closely with highly skilled nurses and an experienced and knowledgeable vet team
- Is willing and able to participate in our shared after-hours on-call roster
Previous behaviour qualifications are not essential.
Curiosity, kindness and a willingness to learn matter far more than previous experience.
What you'll find here
- A clinic where behaviour medicine is genuinely valued—not squeezed between appointments
- Financial support for Stress-Free certification and continuing education
- Mentorship and encouragement of an experienced team to pursue your areas of interest
- A supportive team that values physical and psychological safety, collaboration and professional growth
- Lovely clients who actively seek out our calm, customised approach
- Modern equipment and exceptional nursing support
- Flexible part-time opportunities, with full-time hours expected in the future
We are not aiming to be the busiest clinic.
We aim to be the clinic where patients feel safer, clients feel heard and understand the value of treatment, and the veterinary team are valued and can practise medicine the way they always hoped they would.
- Part-time opportunities available now
- (with future full-time position for the right candidate)
- Weekday opening hours: 8:30am-5:30pm
- Currently closed weekends
- Participation in the shared after-hours roster:
- Vetchat triaged calls until 10pm
