The UTS School of Electrical, Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering and IT is an Australian leader in practice-based learning, research and industry engagement.
The School strives to provide innovative and high-quality multidisciplinary research and teaching outcomes that address the diagnosis, treatment and quality of life of patients with chronic diseases or diseases associated with ageing. In particular, we focus on cancer, musculoskeletal and cardiovascular diseases.

About the Role
We are seeking a researcher to join the team to work in close collaboration with investigators on NHMRC-funded projects.
These projects focus on elucidating the mechanisms of cell plasticity in childhood cancer, specifically neuroblastoma. The research employs single-cell technologies to identify key components of gene and chromatin regulation and to link these mechanisms to functional cellular outcomes.
The appointed researcher will lead the cancer biology and experimental components of these projects. This includes the design, development, and execution of laboratory-based experiments to support single-cell sequencing studies, investigate drug mechanisms of action, and perform preclinical therapeutic testing.
About You / Selection Criteria
As the cancer biology researcher , you will have;
- Honours/Masters/PhD or equivalent in molecular and cellular biology
- Demonstrated experience in laboratory-based research, with a strong foundation in cellular and molecular biology and the ability to design, execute, and interpret experimental studies.
- Demonstrated capacity to learn, develop, and adapt experimental techniques, including the ability to troubleshoot and optimise assays to address biological research questions.
- Strong analytical and interpretive skills, with the ability to integrate experimental results with underlying biological mechanisms and, where appropriate, engage effectively with bioinformatics concepts or collaborators.
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively, contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary and cross-functional cancer research setting.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to prepare high-quality research outputs (e.g. reports, manuscripts, presentations)
and interact effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Experience in cancer biology
- Experience with single-cell technologies and related molecular approaches
- Experience with genetic and epigenetic techniques, such as lentiviral gene delivery, siRNA or CRISPR-based perturbation, and epigenetic profiling (e.g. ChIP-seq)
- Experience with cellular and functional assays, including tissue culture, cell viability assays, differentiation assays, flow cytometry, and/or model development (e.g. organoids, co-culture systems)
- Familiarity with bioinformatics analyses or concepts, and experience working effectively with computational researchers. Interest in learning bioinformatics skills
- An emerging track record of quality peer-reviewed publications
- Experience supervising or mentoring students or junior researchers
Base Salary Range: $ 97,955 - $119,303 pa (Level A)
These roles attract 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.
The position is full-time and an appointment will be made on a fixed term basis until the end of December 2029.
