THE OPPORTUNITYn

Due to continued organic expansion and a team restructure, an opportunity has opened for a Lead Power Systems Engineer to join the engineering team based either in Brisbane CBD or on the Sunshine Coast.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will serve as the technical lead on complex medium and high voltage power system studies, grid connection projects, and substation design interfaces. You will also play a key role in mentoring junior engineers and advancing internal scripting and report automation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead and execute load flow analysis, short circuit calculations, protection coordination, arc flash hazard assessments, motor starting, dynamic stability, and power quality evaluations.
n
- Conduct grid connection and interconnection studies aligned with National Electricity Rules (NER Chapter 5/5A) and AEMO guidelines, interfacing directly with Network Service Providers (NSPs) and clients.
n




- Support primary and secondary substation design, overhead line interfaces, safety clearance studies, insulation coordination, and equipment specification (transformers, CTs/VTs, switchgear, and NERs).

- Utilise Python scripting to drive data exchange and report automation across power system software platforms.

- Coach and develop graduate and junior electrical engineers, fostering internal capability across the 5 person power systems team.

ABOUT YOUn n
- Degree in Electrical Engineering (eligible for Engineers Australia membership). Current RPEQ / CPEng status held, or a clear pathway and commitment to achieve registration within 6 months.
n
- Advanced proficiency in DIgSILENT PowerFactory (primary tool for 80% of project scopes), with working knowledge of PSCAD, PSS/E, ETAP, or CDEGs.
n
- Solid grasp of power system theory across generation, transmission, distribution, and weak grid dynamics (including BESS and renewables integration).
n
- Confident, proactive communicator who is comfortable picking up the phone to coordinate with clients, suppliers, and internal teams.
n
- Hands on experience with Omicron testing equipment (primary/secondary injection and protection relay testing) is advantageous but not mandatory.
