About the Role
This role involves the provision of high quality financial, numerical and policy analysis to DTF’s senior management and Ministers on departmental and whole of government budget and resource management policy issues in an exciting, fast-paced and rewarding work environment.
Key Accountabilities
- Providing cutting-edge and responsive advice to senior management and Ministers on the Government’s fiscal objectives, targets, outlook, risks and strategies.
- Developing innovative solutions within tight time frames to complex financial management issues that have material impacts for whole-of-state finances.
- Delivering key elements of the whole of government financial estimates (including the government’s key budgeting tool SRIMS),
risks and options to a high level of quality and within agreed timelines.
- Collating and analysing detailed financial and non-financial information to make assessments on the current fiscal outlook (including achievement against fiscal targets), emerging risks, and options to a high level of quality and within agreed timelines.
- Building strong relationships and working with other areas across the Department in the application of budget and financial reporting policy and practice as they relate to whole of government outcomes.
- Leading staff, setting objectives and work priorities while ensuring the achievement of outcomes consistent with business objectives and contributing to a positive organisational culture.
Key selection criteria
We are seeking applicants who have demonstrated experience from the following criteria:
- Demonstrated record of achievement in the provision of strategic advice to senior management or government on budget management and resource management and that this advice is routinely accurate, timely, digestible and fit-for-purpose.
- Demonstrated a high level of innovation and problem-solving skills to large and complex financial data, resulting in high quality,
responsive and digestible advice to a non-technical audience.
- Excellent financial skills and demonstrated recent experience in budgeting and financial accounting and reporting by applying finance and accounting concepts and using financial management systems (e.g. SRIMS).
- High level technical expertise in providing direction to team and department around the reporting and analysis of budget estimates and financial actual data.
- Proven ability to negotiate and influence others to achieve strategic objectives and high‑level capability in building productive relationships with clients and other stakeholders at both a technical and business level.
