We seek an enthusiastic and experienced Health Professional to join our vibrant Microbiology team in Macquarie Park. You will be an essential team member, and your responsibilities will include the following:
- Perform routine and specialised microbiological testing on clinical specimens.
- Read and interpret culture plates from a wide range of specimen types, including urine, faeces, wound, respiratory, and blood culture samples
- Conduct and interpret microscopy, including Gram stains and other relevant staining techniques.
- Identify clinically significant microorganisms using conventional and automated methodologies.
- Perform antimicrobial susceptibility testing and interpret results in accordance with established guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory quality management systems, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in quality control, quality assurance, and proficiency testing activities.
- Support junior staff through training and mentoring.
- Collaborating with other team members to achieve tasks promptly and accurately
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and workflow optimisation.
We are looking for the following:
- A graduate with a Medical Science degree or a recognised equivalent qualification.
- Minimum 5 years' recent experience in plate reading within a clinical microbiology laboratory, using both automated and manual methodologies, including culture plate reading and interpretation (medical mycology experience advantageous), clinical microscopy and Gram stain interpretation, bacterial pathogen identification, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
- Understanding of quality assurance and quality control processes in a clinical laboratory.
- Excellent communication, analytical and organisational skills, with robust attention to detail.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced setting and work effectively within a team.
- Highly motivated, reliable and flexible, with availability to work rostered hours, including weekends as required.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
