About this Opportunity

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Trauma Counsellor to join our team. In this role, you will:

- Provide high-quality and client-focused therapeutic counselling to individuals with intellectual disabilities at risk of or who have experienced acute or historical sexual violence or other crime or exploitation.
- Use diverse and creative trauma-informed methods to help clients understand their experiences, explore safety and justice options and develop coping strategies.
- Contribute to and participate in the development and delivery of community education programs or group work for clients, families, carers and professionals as required.

The 4 day role is based in Wooloowin 2 days/week, and 2 days of outreach to Brisbane Southside, with some work-from-home and flexible work arrangements available. Outreach locations include Beenleigh and Richlands, with some room for negotiation as to days and location. A work vehicle may be available for outreach subject to availability and practicality.

The funding for this contract is currently only guaranteed to 30th June 2027, however there may be possibility of extension if this is extended.

About you

We are looking for someone with:

Tertiary Qualifications in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology, Behavioural Sciences, or other relevant qualifications

At least 2 years experience in a trauma-informed counselling, preferably with survivors of sexual violence or other crime, abuse and exploitation or similar.

Some knowledge of the issues facing people with intellectual disabilities, including systemic barriers faced by people with disabilities and the ability to develop strategies to address these challenges effectively.

A valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.

A current Blue Card (Working with Children Check) or eligibility to obtain one before commencing.

Knowledge and experience of the criminal justice system and its implications for our clients and other stakeholders.

Experience in the development, co-ordination and facilitation of community education workshops.
