About the role

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Gardener/Labourer to join our team at Shire of Murchison on a fulltime basis. Based in Murchison WA 6630, this role is pivotal in maintaining our Caravan Park, public spaces, parks, gardens, and recreational areas. As Gardener/Labourer, you will play a vital role in creating and maintaining attractive, functional outdoor environments that contribute to the wellbeing and enjoyment of our community. This position offers the opportunity to work outdoors in a hands-on capacity, combining practical gardening expertise with landscape maintenance to enhance the visual appeal and functionality of Shire facilities.

What you'll be doing

Maintain and cultivate gardens, parks, green spaces, and landscaped areas across Shire.

Perform routine tasks including planting, pruning, weeding, mulching, and general garden maintenance

Operate and maintain gardening equipment and machinery, including mowers, trimmers, and irrigation systems

Prepare soil, create garden beds, and establish new plantings in accordance with landscaping plans and Shire specifications

Monitor plant health and identify and treat pests, diseases, and other horticultural issues

Maintain pathways, borders, and hardscaping features within garden and park areas

Assist in the development and implementation of landscape design projects and seasonal plantings

Undertake general grounds maintenance tasks including litter collection, debris removal, and site tidying

Work safely in accordance with health and safety regulations and Shire protocols

Contribute to the maintenance of irrigation systems and water management practices

Assist the caravan park with pool operations and general maintenance

What we're looking for

Proven experience in gardening, horticulture, or landscape maintenance, typically gained over several years in a similar role

Sound knowledge of plants,



trees, shrubs, and seasonal gardening practices relevant to Western Australian climates

Competency in operating standard gardening machinery and equipment, including lawn mowers and powered hand tools

Understanding of soil preparation, planting techniques, and garden design principles

Ability to work independently and as part of a team, taking direction from supervisors

Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Strong commitment to health and safety practices and environmental sustainability

Reliable, punctual, and professional approach to work

Relevant formal qualifications or certifications in horticulture or landscaping would be advantageous

A valid driver's license is required for this role

This role includes Saturday and Sunday work
