The Role

Join Southern Ports as a Group Health, Safety & Environment Manager and play a pivotal role in leading the Health, Safety and Environment function across the Ports of Albany, Bunbury and Esperance. You will set the strategic direction for HSE, provide expert advice and leadership, and partner with teams across the business to embed best-practice health, safety and environmental management into operational activities. This position can be based at any of our locations Perth, Bunbury, Albany or Esperance.

Key Duties and Responsibilities





Lead and support Southern Ports’ HSE specific projects aligned to Southern Ports’ Strategic goals to ensure sustainable continuous improvement in relevant key performance areas.

Identify, scope and propose strategic HSE change projects which ensure best practice and compliance.

Support the identification, evaluation and mitigation of all health, safety and environment risks related to Southern Ports.

Provide advice, coaching, mentoring, leadership and support within the portfolio on a range of HSE matters and support the team of HSE specialists located at our ports.

Analyse safety and environment event data and provide weekly / monthly statistical and HSE Performance reports to Management and the Board as required.

Required

Tertiary qualification in a Health/Safety, and/or Environment related discipline supported by 10+ years’ experience, including site safety experience

Demonstrated experience in designing, implementing, monitoring and reporting on HSE initiatives

Strong experience in improving safety culture and performance

Solid working knowledge of applicable Australian HSE related legislation

Understanding of Board governance principles, compliance, due diligence and risk management

Excellent written and oral communications skills, including consultation and negotiation, presentation skills

Demonstrated leadership experience and the ability to manage functionally across regions and teams

Excellent interpersonal, influencing and negotiation skills,



with a proven ability to consult effectively and build relationships at all levels within an organisation

An ability to exercise sound judgement and decisiveness with problem solving

Capacity to work independently with minimal direction while working collaboratively in an workplace with remote teams

Preferred

HSE experience in a port, maritime or logistics environment

Practical experience Crises and Emergency Management planning and execution

Knowledge of Contaminated Land management

Working Knowledge of Crisis and Emergency Management

Working knowledge of Federal and State Oil Spill Contingency plans

Working knowledge of national Maritime Security legislation

Working knowledge of WA Mine Safety legislation

Understanding of international Maritime Safety and Environment regulatory arrangements

Requirements

To be eligible for this role, applicants must reside either Perth, Bunbury, Albany or Esperance and provide proof of Australian citizenship or permanent residency.

The successful applicant must:

Be able to obtain and maintain a Maritime Security Identification Card

Pass a pre-employment medical assessment including drug and alcohol testing

Provide a National Police Certificate that is within a 6-month period.
