Informatech has recently been engaged to support a major Federal Government infrastructure modernisation project in Canberra. As part of this engagement, we are seeking an experienced Senior Infrastructure Architect to act as the senior technical authority for the project.
You'll be responsible for translating approved architecture and project requirements into integrated, implementation-ready detailed designs across compute, storage, virtualisation, backup and recovery, networking, monitoring, identity, security and operational services, and for directing project architects, engineers, system administrators and vendors through build, migration and transition to operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as senior technical authority and primary technical adviser to the Project Manager, owning the integrated project architecture, design principles and standards
- Lead development of detailed designs across compute, storage, virtualisation, backup, networking, monitoring, identity and security
- Chair design reviews and assure technical artefacts produced by project resources and delivery partners
- Direct and oversee platform build, configuration, integration and commissioning activities
- Lead migration strategy and sequencing, including Azure Local activities, VMware to Hyper‑V migrations and Commvault backup/recovery integration
- Approve technical runbooks, cutover and rollback plans, and confirm technical readiness for operational acceptance
- Define and oversee technical testing, assurance and operational readiness activities
- Lead knowledge transfer to ensure operational teams can support delivered services
About You
- Demonstrated experience as a technical lead or lead architect for a complex enterprise infrastructure modernisation program, including leadership of multidisciplinary technical teams
- Extensive experience producing and assuring implementation‑ready designs across Windows Server/Hyper‑V, Azure Local, VMware migration, Commvault, enterprise compute/storage/networking and monitoring
- Demonstrated experience overseeing complex build and migration activities from design through cutover, rollback, validation and stabilisation
- Demonstrated experience delivering infrastructure across secure/segregated (OFFICIAL and PROTECTED) environments
- Robust documentation and stakeholder communication skills across architecture, design, implementation and governance artefacts
- Relevant architecture, Microsoft, virtualisation or cloud certifications
- Experience leading large enterprise infrastructure refresh or data centre transformation programs
- Experience leading VMware to Hyper‑V migrations
- Experience in Australian Government or highly regulated environments
- Experience managing vendors and multidisciplinary technical delivery teams
Requirements
- Australian Citizenship, and must currently hold an NV1 security clearance
- Ability to attend on‑site 3-4 days per week, including major workshops, cutover windows and governance forums (some activities may fall outside standard business hours)
