Our client is a growing boutique commercial law firm with offices in Melbourne, Sydney and Hong Kong, providing commercially focused legal advice across Litigation, Property, Commercial, Construction, Immigration and Tax.

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Associate / Senior Associate – Commercial Litigation to join their growing Melbourne team.

n

Working closely with the Principal Lawyer, you'll manage your own portfolio of general commercial litigation matters while providing guidance and mentoring to junior lawyers and graduates within the team.

n

This is an excellent opportunity for a 4–5 PQE commercial litigator, including an established Associate looking to take the next step into a Senior Associate position. You'll have genuine autonomy, direct client exposure and the opportunity to play an important role in the continued development of the firm's Litigation practice.

What You'll Do

n

n
- Manage a broad portfolio of general commercial litigation and dispute resolution matters from initial instructions through to negotiated resolution, settlement, hearing or trial.
n
- Advise clients on commercial and contractual disputes, shareholder and partnership disputes, property-related disputes, debt recovery and other general commercial litigation matters.

- Develop litigation strategies and draft high-quality legal documentation including pleadings, affidavits, witness statements, submissions, settlement documentation and substantive legal correspondence.
n
- Manage Court and Tribunal proceedings, discovery, evidence preparation, mediations and settlement negotiations, while briefing and working closely with Counsel and experts where required.
n
- Act as a trusted adviser to clients by providing practical and commercially focused advice regarding legal strategy, risk, costs and potential outcomes.
n
- Mentor junior lawyers and graduates by providing technical guidance, reviewing work and helping develop their litigation, drafting and client management capabilities.
n
- Where experienced, contribute to construction-related disputes and construction litigation matters as part of the broader Litigation practice.

What You'll Bring

n

n
- Ideally 4–5 years' Post Qualification Experience (PQE) in commercial litigation and dispute resolution.
n
- Strong general commercial litigation experience with the ability to manage matters with a high degree of autonomy.
n
- Excellent legal drafting, negotiation and analytical skills.
n
- Strong client relationship and stakeholder management capability.
n
- Experience briefing Counsel and managing Court or Tribunal proceedings.
n
- Ability and willingness to mentor and support junior lawyers.
n
- Construction or construction litigation experience will be highly regarded but is not essential.
n
