The General Medicine department at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick are seeking 2 x 0.5 FTE (20 hours per week) Staff Specialists to join their team. The appointment will be for a 2-year period, with an option of extending for a further 2 years pending a performance review. The commencement dates of each successful candidate will differ, with one position commencing ASAP and the other position with an anticipated commencement date on 1st January 2027. This position is located across NSW.

What you'll be doing

Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick, part of the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network, is seeking the services of a paediatrician to provide short periods of leave relief to rural paediatricians across NSW. The “back to base” time is flexible and can be negotiated to complement the successful applicant’s interests and skills and support their career development. Just over half of the time will be spent in rural NSW, with the remainder of the time linked with the General Paediatric Department of the successful applicant’s choice of one of the Children’s Hospitals in NSW.

This is a 0.5 FTE temporary Staff Specialist position, for two years with the option to extend for a further two years pending performance review.

Successful applicants will provide excellent clinical services to children and their families as part of a multi-disciplinary team. They will participate in review and improvement activities, as well as training and education of staff.



Successful applicants will be expected to abide by the hospital code of conduct and participate in annual performance reviews for clinical services in accordance with the Staff Specialist (State) Award.

- Eligibility for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Paediatrician and Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians and/or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award.
- Willingness and ability to travel to perform relieving roles in rural NSW as well as to perform educational roles in metropolitan and rural NSW.
- Ability to be flexible in the workplace to adapt to different clinical settings.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team
- Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.
- Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time
