Stepinto a specialist statutory enforcement role supporting safe, compliant andhigh-quality building outcomes across Banyule.

This is an opportunity for an experiencedbuilding professional to join the Building team at Banyule City Council as a StatutoryEnforcement Officer. This role plays an important part in Council’s statutorycompliance responsibilities, with a focus on investigating and resolvingbuilding-related complaints, applying relevant legislation and supporting safeoutcomes for the community.

Working closely with the Municipal BuildingSurveyor and colleagues across Council, you’ll use your technical knowledge,sound judgement and communication skills to manage complex or sensitivematters, provide authoritative advice and contribute to a customer-focused,accountable and collaborative team culture.

What you’ll do in this role:

- Leadthe investigation and resolution of building-related complaints, includingcomplex, sensitive or high-risk matters.
- Undertakesite inspections, gather evidence and assess compliance with relevantbuilding, planning and local law requirements.
- Manageenforcement action, including preparing notices, reports and high-qualityprosecution briefs where required.
- Providespecialist advice to customers, stakeholders and internal staff onenforcement processes, legislative requirements and compliance pathways.
- RepresentCouncil in relevant legal proceedings, tribunals or forums when required.
- Maintainaccurate records, monitor statutory obligations and contribute tocontinuous improvement within the Building Department.

What you’ll bring/what we are looking for:

- Qualification as a Building Surveyor or Inspectorholding registration in the relevant category and class with the BuildingPractitioners Board.
- Completion of the Degree orDiploma in Building Surveying




- Strong technical knowledge of the Building Act1993, Building Regulations 2018 and associated legislation.
- Experience in building inspections,investigations and enforcement activities, including managing complexcompliance matters through to resolution.
- Sound judgement, problem-solving anddecision-making skills in a regulatory environment.
- Highly developed written and verbalcommunication skills, including the ability to prepare transparent correspondence,reports, notices and court documentation.
- Strong interpersonal, negotiation and conflictresolution skills, with the ability to work professionally with a wide range ofpeople.
- The ability to work independently, managecompeting priorities and contribute positively to team outcomes.
- CurrentVictorian Drivers Licence.
- Registered practitioner with theBuilding and Plumbing Commission in the category of Building Surveyor orBuilding Inspector.
