Clinical Trials Manager – Oncology Trials

Remuneration: $59.92 - $70.70 per hour

Join the Westmead Medical Oncology Clinical Trial Unit (MOCTU), a leading oncology research service based at Westmead Hospital. Over the past 15 years, MOCTU has grown into a highly regarded and rapidly expanding unit, supporting approximately 90 active clinical trials across Phase 1 to Phase 4 studies. Our multidisciplinary team of experienced research professionals is committed to advancing cancer treatment through world-class clinical research and delivering exceptional care to patients.

In this role, you'll be part of a collaborative, innovative and supportive environment where your leadership will directly influence the future of oncology research.

- Work within a large, established and highly successful oncology clinical trials unit.
- Lead a skilled multidisciplinary team including Clinical Trial Coordinators and research support staff.

What you'll be doing

As the Clinical Trials Manager, you will provide strategic, operational and people leadership to ensure the successful delivery, expansion and continuous improvement of the oncology clinical trials program.



Working closely with the Operations Manager and Medical Director, you will oversee the unit's resources, trial portfolio and performance while maintaining the highest standards of quality, compliance and patient-centred care.

- Lead the strategic planning, growth and operational management of the Oncology Clinical Trial Unit.
- Manage and develop a high-performing clinical trials workforce through leadership, mentoring and training.
- Oversee the delivery of a large and complex clinical trial portfolio, ensuring compliance with protocols, Good Clinical Practice and regulatory requirements.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with investigators, sponsors, regulatory bodies and key stakeholders.
- Drive quality improvement, risk management, performance reporting and service excellence across the unit.

Requirements

- Relevant health related qualification and/or experience in the field of medical oncology clinical research and clinical trials.
- Extensive experience running clinical trials at site (public or private hospital).
- Demonstrated excellent leadership skills either as a line manager or as a mentor/trainer to Clinical Trial Coordinator role.
- Experience working in, or dealing with, sponsors and industry.




- Previous experience in clinical trial audits either Sponsor lead or regulatory body audits (for cause audits also acceptable).
- Demonstrated high level interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, such as negotiation and report writing applicable in both a research and administrative context.
- Demonstrated understanding of the legislation, codes and guidelines relevant to clinical and research ethics, and the NHMRC National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research, relevant privacy acts and guidelines, the Human Tissue Act, and the Therapeutic Goods Act as it relates to use of medications in human research.
- Proven highly developed delegation skills and staff coaching skills.
