About the Mental Health Division

The Mental Health Division provides care and services through a comprehensive range of teams to meet the needs of mental health consumers and carers throughout Victoria. Services are across Adult and Older Adult, Infant,Childand Youth as well asSpecialtyServices and can be bed based orlocatedin the community.

All mental health services and programs work within a clinical framework that promotes recovery-oriented practice andsupporteddecision making. This approach to consumer wellbeing builds on the strengths of the individual working in partnership with their treating team. It encompasses the principles of self-determination and individualized treatment and care.

About theNorth EastCrisis AssessmentandTreatmentService(NECATS)

We are an integratedcomponentof Austin Health’sAdult and Older AdultMental Health program, and we pride ourselves on being consumer recovery focused.The NECATSprovides highly skilled clinicalassessment andtreatment options and workclosely with local service providers and other specialist mental health services. This is anexcitingand varied position working in the areas of Crisis Assessment Team, Telephone Triage, Emergency Psychiatry Service (Emergency Dept.)and PACER (Police and Clinician Emergency Response) on a 24/7 rotating roster. Theoptionto workpredominantly nightshiftsinthe EPS/ Triage role isalsoavailable.

About the role

As a Senior Mental Health Clinician,



you will beworking across the 4 roles ofNECATS,primarilyprovide an intensive outreachand/orin reachmental health service to high-risk people,as well as their families and wider service systems within the AustinAdult and Older Adult Mental Health Servicecatchment. You'llwork collaboratively withCATTclinicians andthebroaderAOAMHSstaff and teams, to support peoplein their own environmentandwhoare at risk of harm.

A regular day will see you:

- Deliver high quality care for consumers who are;
- being managed at home or
- have presented to theemergencydepartment or
- have contact with police or
- contact our triage phone service seeking support,

- Provide direct service in the clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment of people and familiesutilisingindividual outreach approaches, selected treatment modalities suitable for engaging people in their recovery, which may include mental health promotion and other career development/capacitybuilding activities
- Complete a high standard ofaccurateclinical and operational documentation and data entry ina timelyand efficient manner, andin accordance withAOAMHSstandards of documentation and relevant professional/mental health sector statutory requirements

About you

You will be someone with excellent communication,interpersonaland collaboration skills, who takes a supportive team approach to their work. You'llhave strong organisational and time management skills, as shown by a dynamic and flexible approach to workload management.

To be successful in this role you will bring with you:

- A relevant professional qualification in a health-related discipline (mental health nurse, social work, occupational therapy, clinical psychologyincluding current registration with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency)
- 5 - 7 years' experience (disciplinedependent) in atertiarymental health setting, engaging in enhanced mental health/ risk assessment and management
- Well-developed communication skills, networking, and interpersonal skills.
- Specialist assessment and brief crisis intervention skills,
- Clinical formulation and diagnosis




- Knowledge of recovery and collaborative clinical practice including complex crisis assessments
- Specialist secondary consultations,
- Clinical leadership,
- Support, and oversight of delegated duties to members of the team,
- Ability to network with stakeholders and carers,
- Ability toparticipatein quality improvement activities
