Hydra Search are seeking a Senior Power Systems Engineer to deliver high-quality solutions across the Renewable Energy and Oil & Gas sectors. This role offers the opportunity to lead technically challenging projects while mentoring junior engineers and contributing to the continued growth of the business.
The Role
As a Senior Power Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, analysis, and implementation of electrical power systems across a range of projects. You will provide technical leadership on projects, undertake detailed protection and power system studies, and support commissioning activities when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform detailed electrical and power system design for generation, renewable energy, and distribution network projects.
- Design and coordinate protection systems for distribution networks and embedded generation facilities.
- Undertake power system studies using Digsilent PowerFactory and/or SKM Power Tools.
- Specify, size, and select current transformers (CTs), voltage transformers (VTs), switchgear, transformers, pole-mounted reclosers, and associated electrical equipment.
- Prepare technical specifications, reports, calculations, and design documentation.
- Support commissioning, testing, and site-based activities, including protection relay testing and system energisation.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects safely, efficiently,
and to a high technical standard.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to graduate and junior engineers.
- Maintain compliance with Australian standards, client requirements, and industry best practices.
About You
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 8 years' experience in electrical engineering, preferably within power generation, renewable energy, utilities, or power distribution sectors.
- Registration on the National Engineering Register (NER).
- Strong experience using Digsilent PowerFactory and/or SKM Power Tools.
- Demonstrated experience in detailed protection system design for distribution networks and embedded generation projects.
- Strong understanding of power system protection principles and applications.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a small team setting and mentor less experienced engineers.
- Australian Citizenship, Permanent Residency, or unrestricted working rights.
