Job DescriptionThe Library Services Assistant plays an important role in supporting the delivery of high-quality library and information services in the Senior School. Working closely with the Head of Library and Information Services and the Library team, the position provides administrative, operational and customer service support to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the library. The role also contributes to a welcoming, vibrant and engaging learning environment by assisting students and staff to access library resources, information services, technologies and research support.
Core Job Role Accountabilities
- Support the daily operation of the library, ensuring services are delivered efficiently, professionally and with a strong user focus.
- Process, catalogue and maintain library resources, including shelving, stocktaking, repairs, relabelling and weeding of collections.
- Perform circulation duties, including loans, returns, reservations, overdue notices and active supervision of library spaces.
- Assist students and staff to access library resources; online databases; digital technologies and research tools; and respond to routine reference enquiries.
- Maintain library management systems, records, procedures and administrative processes.
- Contribute to the presentation of the library through displays, promotions and the coordination of library events and activities.
- Work collaboratively with library staff across the Ascham campus.
- Undertake other duties consistent with the role as directed by the Head of Library and Information Services.
Mandatory Requirements
- Certificate III or IV in Library and Information Services (or equivalent experience).
- Experience working in a school, public, academic or special library environment.
- Knowledge of library operations, procedures and library management systems, including circulation and cataloguing functions.
- Strong administrative, organisational and time-management skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and confidence using digital information resources and technologies.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to prioritise workload, meet deadlines and work both independently and collaboratively within a busy team environment.
- Willingness to work rostered early mornings and evenings as required.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification and valid Working With Children (WWC) clearance.
- Knowledge of young adult literature and a passion for reading.
- Experience using online databases, digital research platforms and educational technologies.
- Experience supporting student research and information literacy.
- Experience creating library displays, promotional materials, user guides or resource lists.
