Downer Professional Services comprises of three business units our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice, and Team Downer, which partners with CASG and NSSG as a major service provider to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for clients across Defence and National Security.
About the Role
Downer Professional Services is seeking an experienced Commercial Officer to support the delivery of the LAND program. Working closely with the Commercial Manager, Project Managers, and Project Director, you will play a key role in supporting contract management, procurement activities, commercial governance, and supplier performance management within a complex Defence environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded professional who enjoys working with stakeholders, managing competing priorities, and contributing to a high-profile Defence capability program.
What You'll Do
You will support a broad range of commercial and procurement activities, ensuring contracts are effectively managed and project outcomes are delivered in line with Defence and Commonwealth requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the management and administration of contracts and commercial activities across the LAND program.
- Monitor supplier performance against contractual obligations, KPIs, Operational Performance Measures, and Key Health Indicators.
- Assist with contract reviews, amendments, variations, change proposals, and contract administration activities.
- Prepare procurement and contracting documentation using ASDEFCON templates and support complex procurement activities.
- Contribute to contract governance, compliance reviews, risk identification, and stakeholder engagement activities.
About You
You are a motivated and organised commercial professional with experience supporting Defence procurement and contract management activities. You possess strong commercial acumen, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build effective working relationships across a diverse stakeholder environment.
Skills & Experience
- Experience applying commercial, procurement, or contract management principles within a Defence environment.
- Demonstrated experience supporting contract administration and management activities, ideally using the ASDEFCON suite.
- Experience supporting complex procurement activities, including the development of Statements of Work, Statements of Requirement, and evaluation of industry responses.
- Proven ability to work effectively within complex stakeholder environments and manage competing priorities.
Essential Qualifications & Requirements
- Relevant qualification in Contract Management, Procurement, Commerce, Business, Law, or a related discipline.
- More than 5 years' experience in Commercial Management, Procurement,
or Contract Management roles.
- Comprehensive understanding of Australian Government procurement frameworks, including the Commonwealth Procurement Rules (CPRs).
- Experience working with ASDEFCON contracting templates and processes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
