Melbourne H2O Swimming Club
Melbourne
- Based at Prahan Aquatic Centre
- Casual/Contract approximately 2-4 sessions a week, flexible, attractive hourly rate
- Love swimming. Love coaching. Make a difference.
Melbourne H2O (MH2O) is looking for an experienced Swim Coach to become part of our coaching team and swimming community. We’re a not-for-profit Masters swimming club built around great coaching, fitness, friendship and fun. Our members are a wonderfully varied bunch - from social and fitness swimmers to pool and open-water competitors, and triathletes competing at national and international level.
Some of us chase PBs. Some chase fitness. Some chase that perfect stroke. And some are just chasing the coffee afterwards. Whatever brings our swimmers to the pool, we want them to leave each session feeling better, fitter, more confident - and having had a excellent time.
We offer around 15 1.5 hours coached sessions (weekdays 5.45am, 7.15 am & 5.30pm + Saturday mornings during winter), providing our members with plenty of opportunities to train, improve and connect. And while much of our swimming happens between lane ropes, our community extends beyond the pool - with a shared love of swimming, including regular post session social events.
We're serious about good swimming. We just don't think you have to be serious all the time to achieve it.
The chance. As our coach you'll work with swimmers of different ages, abilities and ambitions - helping them improve their technique, fitness and performance while creating sessions and environment people are motivated to attend. You'll:
- Deliver structured, engaging sessions that balance technique, endurance, speed and recovery with variety.
- Coach adult swimmers across a broad range of abilities and goals.
- Observe technique and provide clear, practical and positive feedback.
- Adapt sets for different levels of fitness, skill, confidence and capability.
- Support swimmers preparing for pool and open-water competitions.
- Work collaboratively with our other coaches to provide a consistent, high-quality coaching experience.
- Contribute ideas to the ongoing development of the club and its coaching program.
- Most importantly, help maintain the inclusive, friendly and welcoming community that makes MH2O special and ensures high participation and attract recent members.
The coach we'd love to meet.
Technical coaching ability is important to us. But how you coach is just as important. You will be someone who:
- Knows your swimmers. You understand that every swimmer has different goals, abilities, motivations and limitations.
- Makes people better. You can spot the small technical changes that make a big difference and explain them in a way that swimmers understand.
- Creates great sessions. Your sessions are purposeful, varied and challenging, but also enjoyable, where our swimmers want to come back for more.
- Builds a team. You create an environment where swimmers encourage each other, newcomers feel welcome and everyone feels part of MH2O.
- Brings energy and enthusiasm.
You know that people are more likely to keep swimming when they enjoy coming to training and that a little humour and fun can make a tough set considerably more enjoyable
- Leads by example. You’re professional, reliable, collaborative and committed to developing yourself and the coaches around you.
What you'll bring. We're particularly interested in candidates with:
- Masters swimming coaching accreditation or ability to gain within a short period
- Demonstrated session and program planning skills.
- Excellent knowledge of swimming technique, stroke correction and feedback.
- Ideally experience coaching Masters or adult swimmers.
- An understanding of injury prevention and adapting training to individual needs.
- Enthusiasm for creating an inclusive and positive squad environment.
- Competition knowledge and experience preparing swimmers for events or personal competition experience
- Current First Aid/CPR credentials
- Legal right to work in Australia
Why MH2O?
Because we’re more than a group of people swimming up and down a pool. We’re a community.
We have swimmers who have been swimming for decades alongside people discovering Masters swimming for the first time. We celebrate achievement but we also celebrate turning up, improving technique, getting through a tough set and enjoying a swim with good people.
You’ll have the opportunity to shape that experience - developing swimmers, supporting coaches and helping build the next chapter of MH2O.
If you’re a coach who wants to make a genuine difference to both swimmer performance and club culture, we’d love to hear from you.
