The Opportunity

Moonee Valley Libraries is seeking a passionate and motivated Community Outreach Library Technician to play a key role in delivering high-quality customer service and outreach services across the municipality. Working as part of the Libraries and Learning team, you will engage with community members, partners and stakeholders across a range of outreach locations, including through our Library on the Move service.

This is an exciting opportunity to combine your library expertise, customer service skills and passion for community engagement to help ensure library services are accessible and responsive to the diverse needs of our community.

Key Responsibilities

- Deliver proactive, customer-focused library services and provide assistance with library equipment, technology, online resources, library apps, eBooks and mobile devices.
- Safely operate the Library on the Move van and deliver library services and outreach sessions at locations across the municipality.
- Ensure the Library on the Move van is appropriately equipped to effectively deliver library services and programs, including undertaking regular vehicle inspections and reporting any issues.
- Promote library services within the community and develop positive relationships with community members, partners and stakeholders.
- Assist with the development, delivery and evaluation of outreach programs.
- Work collaboratively with program facilitators and community organisations to support successful outreach activities.
- Provide supervision and training to library staff as required and undertake day-to-day supervisory responsibilities when rostered on as supervisor.
- Respond appropriately to customer enquiries, service issues and challenging situations, escalating matters where required.
- Provide relief at other library locations and contribute to the efficient operation of the library service.

Skills & Experience





The ideal candidate will have a Library Diploma qualification accepted by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), or relevant experience in the provision of outreach and public library services, together with demonstrated customer service experience. Public library experience is highly desirable. You will have demonstrated reference and information skills, including familiarity with electronic resources, mobile devices and online library services, as well as sound computer literacy and the ability to undertake basic technology troubleshooting. You will have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, strong organisational and time management skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively with a diverse range of people. Experience working with community organisations and program facilitators, together with the ability to safely drive and navigate a large vehicle, will be highly regarded. A current Victorian Driver’s Licence is required.
