The Opportunity

Join our City Cleansing team and help keep our streets, cycleways, shopping centres and public spaces clean, safe and welcoming for the community. We currently have two permanent full time opportunities available.

Working as part of a six person team led by an experienced Leading Hand, you will operate specialised road sweeping equipment across the Wollongong Local Government Area while contributing to the delivery of essential services that residents and visitors rely on every day.

You will spend much of your day working independently, managing scheduled sweeping runs and responding to customer requests across different parts of the city. At the same time, you'll be part of a small team that supports one another, shares responsibilities and works together to deliver great outcomes for the community.

This role offers variety, autonomy and the opportunity to make a visible difference in your community. From operating large road sweeping vehicles to maintaining equipment, responding to requests and helping keep public spaces clean, your work will contribute directly to creating an extraordinary Wollongong.

This is a permanent full-time position based at Central Depot, North Wollongong. The role operates on a 70 hour, 9 day fortnight with a rostered day off and may require overtime, weekend work and night shifts to meet operational requirements. Hours from 5am to 1:15pm for dayshift and 9pm to 5:15am for nightshift.

Applicants must be physically capable of undertaking manual tasks associated with the role, including climbing onto vehicles, operating equipment and performing cleaning duties. Salary: $80,937.03 to $84,437.98 per annum plus superannuation. (Salary will be determined based on skills, experience and qualifications.)





What you will be doing

You will operate and maintain road sweeping vehicles to help keep streets, gutters, cycleways, malls and public areas clean and presentable across the Wollongong Local Government Area.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Operating road sweeper vehicles safely and efficiently across scheduled routes and customer request locations.
- Completing pre start inspections, daily cleaning and routine maintenance checks on vehicles and equipment.
- Using vehicle mounted equipment and other plant to clean public areas and respond to service requests.
- Managing work requests and recording completed work using tablets and electronic systems.
- Providing courteous and professional service when interacting with customers and members of the public.
- Supporting the wider City Cleansing team with cleaning and operational activities as required.
- Following workplace health and safety procedures and contributing to a safe working environment for yourself, your colleagues and the community.

About you

You are an experienced truck driver who takes pride in your work, values safety and enjoys contributing to a team that delivers important services to the community. You are reliable, adaptable and comfortable working independently while remaining connected to the broader team.

You will bring:

- A current MR Driver Licence or higher.
- Experience operating and maintaining road sweeper vehicles or heavy vehicles.
- A strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
- Physical capability to undertake manual tasks associated with the role.
- The ability to work independently, manage your workload and follow scheduled work programs.
- Good communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with customers, colleagues and stakeholders.
- Confidence using tablets, mobile devices and digital systems, or the willingness to learn.
- A positive, team focused approach and a willingness to support others when needed.
