A varied and compelling role involving a unique combination of routine clinical and shelter nursing duties. Key responsibilities
- Perform general nursing duties including assisting veterinarians with foster care consultations, shelter animal health checks, providing treatment to hospitalised patients, and managing daily procedures
- Perform surgical nursing duties including monitoring patients under general anaesthesia
- Approach patient treatment and care with compassion and the use of fear-free nursing techniques to support the animals' welfare
- Run laboratory tests using the fully equipped in-house laboratory
- Assist the Practice Manager with administrative tasks including inventory management and equipment maintenance
- Assist with training and support of junior staff, non-veterinary staff, students and volunteers
- Participate in community education programs, animal welfare events and fundraising campaigns
About you
- Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent veterinary nursing qualification
- At least 3 years nursing experience
- Strong nursing skills covering all aspects of medical and surgical veterinary care
- A commitment to or willingness to integrate fear-free handling
- A passion for companion animal welfare and an understanding of the human-animal bond
- A desire to continually promote companion animal welfare through education and support of the community
- A positive outlook and willingness to be involved in all aspects of the organisation
- The ability to work closely with a team as well as autonomously
- Experience working in the animal welfare field will be highly regarded
