Calibration Officer – Federal GovernmentMelbourne | APS5 | 3-Year Temporary Assignment | $***** – $***** per hour + superWe are seeking an experienced Calibration Officer to join a Federal Government Department and support a significant national Automatic Weather Station (AWS) Infrastructure Upgrade Project.This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a large-scale project involving the modernisation of more than 750 weather monitoring sites across Australia and the Pacific, supporting the reliability and accuracy of critical environmental observation infrastructure.About the RoleReporting directly to the Manager, Standards & Metrology Laboratory, you will be responsible for the calibration, acceptance testing, verification and maintenance of a diverse range of electronic, electrical, mechanical, meteorological and hydrological instrumentation.You will work within a specialist laboratory setting and provide technical support to project and operational teams, helping ensure instrumentation is accurate, reliable, fit for purpose and compliant with required standards.Key ResponsibilitiesCoordinate and undertake the calibration, testing and maintenance of laboratory and field equipment.Schedule equipment calibrations in collaboration with Project Managers, metrology specialists, inventory teams and other technical staff.Support the assessment and evaluation of new instrumentation and equipment.Collect statistics, undertake data analysis and investigate operational issues relating to instrumentation.Prepare and maintain technical reports, procedures,
work instructions and documentation.Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of calibration and testing practices.Support quality management processes and compliance with ISO **** and ISO ***** standards.Provide technical advice to project and operational staff.Assist with the design, testing and documentation of computer programs that support scientific and operational activities.Ensure all work is undertaken in accordance with relevant health, safety, quality and departmental requirements.About YouDemonstrated practical experience in calibration, measurement, traceability and uncertainty.Experience working within a calibration, metrology or standards laboratory.Strong practical knowledge of instrumentation and measurement.Experience handling and managing large volumes of instruments and equipment with a high degree of accuracy.Experience with meteorological, hydrological, environmental or field monitoring equipment would be highly regarded.Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft 365 skills.An understanding of land, marine and/or atmospheric environments and the challenges associated with field-based monitoring equipment.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills,
