We convert fragmented, fast-moving energy data into a single view of what's being built, where, and by who, all inside a software platform loved by our users.We're a small, mission-oriented team of energy professionals and product engineers who ship fast, listen to customer feedback, and solve problems that matter.As Head of Research at RenewMap, you will lead RenewMap's external research function, identifying consequential questions in the industry and developing solid, defensible insights to explain what's going on.You'll work directly with RenewMap's proprietary datasets to find signals others can't easily see, increasing clarity and transparency across the industry.
You will contribute to research reports, media commentary, events and panels, and directly engage with RenewMap customers.Because we're a small company, you will be deeply embedded with the product and data teams that build RenewMap.
You'll be expected to identify new data we should collect and current features that will drive customer value, and help deliver them effectively into RenewMap.If you love energy, analytics, problem solving and storytelling, this is the perfect role for you.ResponsibilitiesReporting to the co‐founder and Head of Growth, your responsibilities will be to:Identify research topics based on important developments across the A/NZ energy sectorUse RenewMap and external datasets to identify trends and develop findings, turning these into clear,



defensible insights and highlighting why they matter to our customersWrite and publish data‐led content, including market notes, reports and commentary for the RenewMap website and social channelsBuild charts, infographics and other visualisations consistent with RenewMap in‐house styleContribute market expertise to product strategy and feature development in RenewMapRepresent RenewMap with media, industry bodies and conferences where appropriateMorning: Finishing off a research note on a recent trend you've identifiedBefore lunch: Reviewing your research with the team for feedbackAfter lunch: Catching up with product engineers for weekly demosAfternoon: Sourcing new data attributes for projects to surface in RenewMapClosing off the day: Preparing for an upcoming industry event or panelWhat we're looking forThere isn't a single background for this role, we're looking for someone who is passionate about the industry and telling stories with data.
At a minimum, however, we expect:5+ years of energy market experience (e.g. market intelligence, consulting, government, research)Excellent technical communication to turn complex analyses into clear, defensible conclusionsStrong quantitative and analytical skills, including the ability to independently interrogate large and messy datasets using tools such as SQL, Python, R or ExcelDemonstrated ability to communicate complex analysis and takeaways to senior and / or public audiences (e.g. public blogs, speaking events, etc.)Small team with meaningful autonomyHybrid remote work with flexible office hoursAccess to energy industry events
