We are seeking an experienced full-time Chef to join the kitchen team at TÁVOLA Restaurant, operated by Tavola Hospitality Pty Ltd, in Bentleigh, Melbourne.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the preparation, cooking and presentation of Italian dishes, ensuring consistency, quality and compliance with food safety standards. The role involves working as part of a qualified kitchen team across lunch and dinner services and contributing to the efficient day-to-day operation of the kitchen.

Key responsibilities
Preparing and cooking food in accordance with menu requirements and established standards
Planning menus and contributing to menu development
Estimating food and labour costs, determining food requirements, and ordering food supplies
Monitoring the quality of dishes throughout preparation and presentation
Demonstrating cooking techniques and advising on preparation and cooking procedures
Ensuring food safety, hygiene and workplace safety requirements are followed
Communicating with management, kitchen staff and front-of-house staff regarding food preparation and service requirements
Assisting with the training and development of junior kitchen staff
Ensuring the correct storage, preservation and handling of food, including freezing where applicable




Supporting the effective organisation and workflow of the kitchen

Skills and experience
A relevant Diploma qualification in commercial cookery or a related field, or an equivalent relevant qualification
Previous experience working as a Chef in a commercial kitchen
Sound knowledge of food preparation techniques and professional kitchen operations
Ability to perform effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
Reliable, organised and able to work effectively within a team
Sound knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards
Experience with Italian cuisine will be highly regarded

Employment details
Full time, permanent position
38 hours per week
Salary: $80,000–$85,000 plus superannuation
Rotating roster across lunch and dinner services, including weekends and public holidays
