Euroa - Veterinary and Speller Assistant (Driver)Reports to: Veterinary & Spelling ManagerHours: Monday - Friday, 8am - 4pm (Full Time).
Part Time or Casual opportunities are availableLocation: Euroa, VictoriaThe primary focus of this position is to coordinate and safely carry out horse movements across our spelling and training operations, ensuring horses are moved efficiently, safely and with the highest standard of care.Working closely with the Veterinary & Spelling Manager and Movements team, you will be responsible for moving horses between stables, paddocks and farms, maintaining accurate records and assisting with the day-to-day care of spelling horses.The role will also involve driving a 6-horse paddock truck, with opportunities to undertake local transport of horses where required.Coordinate and carry out internal horse movementsSafely handle and transport a wide range of horses, including racehorses, yearlings, retired and unbroken horsesDrive a 6-horse paddock truck and, when competent, tow a 3-horse floatAssist horses that require education to load and travel safelyRecord horse movements, weights and locations in Prism and other required recordsAssist with spelling duties, including feeding,
rugging and unruggingProvide basic equine first aid and routine paddock treatmentsAssist with veterinary duties and treatments within your level of competenceMaintain accurate veterinary records and treatment logs in accordance with the Rules of RacingAssist with bandaging, monitoring injuries and other veterinary support dutiesMaintain high standards of horse welfare, safety and cleanlinessSafely operate vehicles, equipment and toolsWork collaboratively with the Veterinary, Spelling and Stable teamsWe are looking for someone who has:A minimum of 2 years' relevant horse industry experienceStrong equine handling and horsemanship skillsExperience with racehorses or a similar standard of horse careThe ability to work confidently both independently and as part of a teamGood communication skills and the ability to follow instructionsA solid commitment to horse welfare and workplace safetyGood attention to detail, particularly with records and administrationA willingness to learn and undertake additional training where requiredMedium Rigid (MR) licence, or willingness to obtain oneA reliable, adaptable and hardworking attitudeCertificate III in Racing/Animal Care or equivalent experience is desirable.
