Grant Help is a Melbourne-based government funding consultancy, supporting Australian businesses, from start-ups to enterprises, to access programs such as the R&D; Tax Incentive and EMDG.
The financial assessment team sits at the centre of our R&DTI; department, turning a client's accounting records into a defensible schedule of eligible R&D; expenditure and working with our registered tax agents to prepare and lodge AusIndustry registrations and R&D; tax schedules.
The role
This role owns the financial analysis behind each client's claim.
Working from their accounting records and technical briefs, you will assess which expenditure is eligible and quantify it in preparation for registration and lodgement.
You will work directly with clients throughout, requesting and interpreting records and explaining eligibility outcomes in terms a non-specialist can act on.
Technical review and support come from our registered tax agents.
The role suits an accountant who is comfortable in a general ledger, interested in applying tax legislation, and looking to specialise rather than stay in general practice.
You will manage a portfolio of engagements across industries from kick-off to lodgement, and help shape the methodology the team applies.
For the right person, there is a clear path to senior accountant and portfolio management.
Key responsibilities
Act as the main point of contact for clients on the financial side of their R&DTI; claim, including calls on expenditure and record-keeping

Analyse accounting records to identify and quantify eligible R&D; expenditure
Prepare R&D; Expense Identification Workbooks, including apportionment methodology and calculations
Calculate the R&D; tax offset and take clients through the outcome
Prepare written findings, information requests and client correspondence
Support our registered tax agents through AusIndustry registration and lodgement of the R&D; tax schedule
Maintain contemporaneous records that withstand ATO and AusIndustry review
Manage concurrent engagements to agreed deadlines
What we're looking for
A bachelor's degree in accounting, commerce, finance or a related discipline
Completed or progressing CA (CA ANZ); CPA Australia candidates and members also considered
Professional experience in accounting or tax, ideally in public practice, business services or tax advisory
Registered Tax Agent, or willing to become one.
Advanced Excel and confidence with large data sets
Accurate interpretation of financial statements and accounting records
Confidence dealing directly with clients and their external accountants
Transparent written and verbal communication, including explaining technical concepts to non-technical people
Highly organised, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing deadlines
Prior R&DTI; experience is not essential.
Candidates with strong accounting fundamentals and an interest in tax technical work will be trained in the incentive.
