About the role:
Walgett Shire Council is seeking a hardworking and reliable
Building Maintenance Worker
to help our busy Property team with regular maintenance of Council properties.
Permanent, fulltime position working 38 hours per week with every second Friday an RDO.
The position is based at Walgett and supports Council facilities across the Local Government Area, with travel to other locations as required .
The Building Maintenance Worker works under the direction of the Building Maintenance Team Leader.
The role keeps Council's buildings, grounds and property safe, functional, and well-presented through hands-on building maintenance, grounds and property upkeep, and cleaning of Council facilities.
In addition to technical responsibilities, the role requires strong communication and teamwork skills, the ability to follow instructions, and a proactive approa ch to risk management.
Workers are expected to support Council's goals through collaborative efforts, upholding confidentiality, being adaptable to evolving duties, and promoting a positive image of Council to the community and public.
This role would be suitable for someone who enjoys practical, hands-on, physical work, and being outdoors.
Candidates will require a
valid Class C driver's license and a WHS Construction Induction Card.
Tickets in plant operation and first aid will be highly regarded.
About you:
Success in this position will require:
possessing the skills necessary to carry out inspections, perform routine maintenance,



and operate various plant and equipment safely and efficiently
being motivated and hardworking with a practical background in building maintenance
being physically fit, willing to perform manual labour and to work in adverse weather conditions
ability to demonstrate a sound understanding of safety procedures and strong commitment to workplace health and safety and environmental standards
ability to follow instructions, work within timeframes and have a willingness to learn and adapt
being reliable, respectful, with a positive attitude, strong communication skills and willingness to contribute effectively to a team
understanding the importance of public service and taking pride in upholding the reputation of Council and the community
