Less technical design; more project leadership, contracts & commercials
Projects spanning Australia, NZ, the Pacific & SE Asia
As a
Senior Project Manager / Project Director – Maritime
, join a specialist engineering consultancy where the technical capability is already well covered.
What they need is someone who knows how to actually deliver the work.
This is deliberately less about detailed design and more about project leadership.
You'll sit between the technical teams, clients and commercial side of the business, taking complex maritime projects from tender through delivery while making sure the program, contract and commercials stack up along the way.
The portfolio covers ports, marinas, jetties, docks and coastal infrastructure across Australia, NZ, the Pacific and SE Asia.
The Role
You'll take ownership of project delivery while playing an important commercial role before projects even get through the door.
You'll:
Lead maritime and coastal infrastructure projects from tender through delivery.
Manage budgets, programs, resources, risk and commercial performance.
Play a key role in bids, particularly pricing and commercial terms.
Review contracts and identify risk before projects are signed.
Manage variations and scope changes throughout delivery.
Challenge clients where scope, cost or expectations have shifted.
Coordinate technical specialists across maritime, coastal and adjoining disciplines.
Maintain the commercial discipline around projects without needing to personally deliver the detailed design.
Work closely with senior BD leadership, allowing them to stay focused externally on clients and winning the next project.
There's also genuine openness to someone from a
construction background
.
You don't necessarily need to have spent your career inside engineering consulting if you understand complex infrastructure delivery and the commercial realities that come with it.
The Team
You'll sit within a Maritime team of around 30, inside an Australian business approaching 100 people.
The business is profitable and growing, with new Country Director leadership and a recently opened North Sydney office adding to the momentum.
There's a sense internally that this is a current chapter for the Australian operation rather than simply business as usual.
You'll also have plenty of technical depth around you.
Maritime projects regularly cross into coastal and other disciplines, so the point of this hire isn't to be the smartest designer in the room.
It's to make sure all that expertise translates into a well-run, commercially successful project.
Experience
We're open-minded about where you've built your experience.
Consulting, contracting and construction backgrounds can all work.
Ideally, you'll bring:
Senior Project Manager / Project Director experience on complex infrastructure.
Strong commercial and contractual capability.
Experience with bids, tenders, pricing and project risk.
Confidence managing contracts, variations and changing scope.
The ability to have difficult commercial conversations with clients when required.
Strong understanding of construction and project delivery.
Maritime, ports, coastal or marine infrastructure experience is highly regarded.
Enough technical understanding to effectively lead engineering projects without needing to undertake the design yourself.
$200,000 base + 12% super + 10% profit share
, potentially higher for the right person.
