At Geospan, we are building the intelligence layer for the road network, using AI-powered roadside cameras to detect and understand hazards on the road in real time and turn this into actionable data for smarter, safer and more connected vehicles.
By giving vehicles access to intelligence beyond their own sensors, they can anticipate what's ahead, coordinate with infrastructure and make better decisions in real time.
We're a small, ambitious team working across AI, software, hardware and field deployment.
We care about moving quickly, solving difficult real-world problems and building technology that works on actual roads in real conditions.
About the role
As a Robotics Systems Engineer, you will help design, build and deploy the physical systems that underpin Geospan's roadside intelligence platform.
You will work across cameras, sensing, edge-compute architecture, networking, embedded systems and software integration, taking systems from early prototypes through field testing and reliable real-world deployment.
This is a broad, hands-on engineering role.
You may be designing compute architecture one day, debugging a camera or networking issue in the field the next, and then improving the software and deployment tooling that makes the system more reliable and repeatable.
You will have meaningful ownership over the systems you build and the technical decisions behind them.
What you'll do
Design and integrate Geospan's roadside systems across cameras, sensing, edge compute, networking and software
Take systems from prototype through testing, field deployment and reliable real-world operation
Build software and tooling to configure, monitor, diagnose and manage deployed systems
Own and contribute to key technical decisions across hardware and software interfaces
Debug complex system-level problems across devices, networking,
software and field infrastructure
Improve the reliability, maintainability and repeatability of Geospan's deployments
Work closely with the AI and software teams to ensure edge and cloud systems operate effectively together
Support deployments, demonstrations and technical customer discussions where required
Represent Geospan at conferences, industry events and technical collaborations when required
About you
Ambitious goals and seemingly impossible deadlines bring out your best work.
You're driven, passionate and always willing to learn.
You want to own meaningful problems from beginning to end.
You see the whole picture, understand how each decision affects what comes next and stay obsessed with the problem until it's solved.
You don't wait for perfection.
You build, test, learn and iterate.
You want genuine ownership and equity in what you help build, along with the various responsibilities that come with it.
Most importantly, you want to push beyond what you thought you were capable of and build something that has never been done before.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Strong mechatronics engineering fundamentals
Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience working with cameras, sensors, embedded computers or edge-computing platforms
A strong understanding of how hardware, software and networking systems interact
Experience with Python
Experience with cloud infrastructure,
particularly AWS.
Experience taking systems beyond prototypes into testing or real-world operation
The ability to work independently and make sensible engineering decisions with incomplete information
A willingness to work hands-on with deployed systems and field hardware
Strong candidates may also have (but are not required to):
Experience with NVIDIA Jetson or similar edge-computing platforms
Worked on field deployed embedded systems.
Experience with computer vision or machine-learning systems
Experience with IP cameras, video streaming or camera protocols
Experience with cellular networking, remote-device connectivity or fleet management
Experience with Docker or containerised edge applications
Experience with Linux based systems
Experience building outdoor, industrial or remotely deployed systems
Experience with autonomous vehicles, intelligent transport systems, mobility or roadside infrastructure
Experience with hardware prototyping, electronics or mechatronic design
Experience with ROS or ROS 2
Experience working directly with customers, partners or field teams
How we work
We are a small team who work closely together.
We value people who take ownership, move quickly and care deeply about whether what they build actually works.
The problems we are solving do not always come with clear instructions.
You will often need to make decisions with incomplete information and iterate based on what happens in the real world.
Location
We are based in
Sydney, Australia
.
This is primarily an in-person role with time split between our Sydney office, test facilities and field deployments.
Compensation
Additional compensation and perks may include equity and flexible working arrangements
