About The Role
The Financial Accounting Policy, Guidelines & Governance team is looking for an Accounting Policy Officer to contribute to the development and maintenance of the Department's accounting policies, guidelines and internal control framework over financial systems and information.
In this role, you will help ensure the Department's financial reporting and accounting practices comply with Australian Accounting Standards and NSW Treasury accounting policies and guidelines.
You will develop fit-for-purpose accounting policies, guidelines and resources that support Finance teams and business areas to apply accounting requirements consistently and effectively.
You will also contribute to strengthening financial governance and internal controls by identifying gaps, issues and risks.
Working collaboratively with business areas across the department, you will provide advice and support on the proper application of financial internal controls and remediation of identified weaknesses.

About You
We are looking for an accounting professional who is analytical, collaborative and able to provide practical advice.
You Will Bring
Knowledge and experience applying Australian Accounting Standards and NSW Treasury accounting policies and guidelines
Experience evaluating the design and operating effectiveness of financial internal controls and providing practical recommendations to remediate identified gaps
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Good communication and stakeholder engagement skills
The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver quality work
A proactive approach to continuous improvement
Key Knowledge And Experience
Knowledge and experience interpreting and applying Australian accounting standards
Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
Essential Requirements Of The Role
Finance or accounting degree (or equivalent) or demonstrated equivalent knowledge,
skills and experience, and eligibility for, or progression towards, membership of a recognised Australian professional accounting association
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
