Saunders International
is seeking an experienced
Mechanical Engineer
to join the team at our head office in Rhodes, Sydney.
About The Role
As a key member of our multidisciplinary engineering team, the mechanical engineer supports all projects undertaken by the Saunders tank building team which supports areas such as Fuels, chemicals, water, mining and defense. Work involves construction of current and maintenance of existing tanks and associated mechanical and structural infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare or check mechanical design and engineering calculations, reports and specifications.
Ensure design compliance with relevant design codes.
Ensure design compliance with specific procedures,



guidelines and standards.
Communicate with Draftspersons to develop detail drawings.
Review and check drafting deliverables to ensure engineering intent, code compliance, and dimensional accuracy.
Prepare or check construction method statements.
Answer queries from client representatives, project managers, project engineers and site supervisors and provide engineering solutions
Provide technical input into project feasibility, tendering, and costing.
Coordinate with fabrication and construction teams to resolve technical queries during manufacture and installation.
Undertake site visits, including inspections, technical support during construction, and witnessing testing and commissioning activities.
Mentor and provide technical guidance to graduate and junior engineers.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and industry best practice.
Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of engineering standards, templates, and workflows.
Actively participates in safety related activities and performs all work duties in a safe and efficient manner.
Essential Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution in mechanical or structural disciplines.
10+ years' experience mechanical engineering design, ideally within the storage tank, oil & gas, water/wastewater, or heavy industrial sectors.
Chartered status (e.g. CPEng, NER, or equivalent)



or demonstrated eligibility and ability to attain Chartered status within a defined timeframe.
Experience in structural steel design, with the accreditations and/or demonstrated competency required to support structural steel engineering (e.g. relevant structural design experience and working knowledge of AS **** or equivalent).
Proficiency with engineering analysis and design software relevant to tank and structural design.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients, drafters, and construction teams.
Good knowledge of AutoCAD.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
