Duties
You will serve as a Rigger, tasked to move, lift and position heavy loads.
You will select and attach hoisting and pulling gear for lifting, moving, and positioning heavy machines, items of equipment, large structural parts, and other heavy loads.
You will direct the operation of cranes and similar equipment and directs fellow riggers.
You will fabricate and install wire or fiber rope products such as slings, towing bridles, nets, rope ladders and other ship or boat rigging and handling equipment.
You will estimate weight distribution and the center of gravity of loads to be moved.
You will support ship docking and undocking operations by laying out and handling docking lines and tackles, snubbing lines on cleats or bollards, hauling in lines by operating capstans.
You will install or repair rigging on ships, such as mast and antenna rigging, small boat handling gear, barrier and arresting gear on aircraft carriers, and windlass and winch rigging.
You will fabricate various wire and fiber rope products in the rigging loft, such as nets, ladders, boat falls, lifting gripes, towing gear, salvage gear, mast stays etc.
Requirements

This is an overseas position. You will be subject to and must be able to satisfy the overseas requirements of the 26Jul12 DODI ******* V****:
This position may require travel to places within and outside the contiguous United States which could include remote or isolated sites. You may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
May be required to obtain a VISA dependent on the overseas country's laws/regulations.
You will be required to sign the Statement of Understanding for Overseas Employment acknowledging receipt and understanding of the statement of living and working conditions for this location.
Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code ****.

You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.




You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

Understanding and application of the full range of rigging techniques sufficient to serve as a journey-level rigger.
Understanding and application of safety factors for all rigging equipment. Knowing and using approved hand signals.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, job orders, sketches, design sketches, and complex work procedures like Lifting and Handling Work Instructions (LHWI).
Working from both oral and written instructions to carry out assigned duties.
Ability to estimate sizes, weights, and capacities of equipment and loads.

Education
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This position is subject to an initial drug screening, and random testing thereafter. A negative drug test result must be received by HR within 30 calendar days after the EOD (i.e., start date). The selectee's inability to successfully pass; or refusal to conduct the test may result in: 1) the tentative or final job offer being withdrawn during the recruitment process; or 2) subsequently being removed from Federal service for failure to meet a condition of employment.
