Our client operates a forward-thinking farming business focused on sustainable crop cultivation, sheep production, and the integration of up-to-date agricultural technologies. They are currently seeking an enthusiastic Agricultural and Agritech Technician to contribute to farm operations, support research-based improvements, and assist in enhancing productivity across farming systems.
1. Key Tasks
- Gather, document and interpret crop, soil and environmental data to assist farm management with informed decisions and identification of nutrient constraints.
- Assist with the development and refinement of planting, fertilisation and harvesting processes.
- Carry out field sampling, testing and monitoring activities to assess plant condition, soil performance and nutrient availability in order to maximise output.
- Operate, adjust, maintain and monitor agricultural machinery, GPS-guided equipment and precision agriculture systems.
- Support the establishment of trial plots, assist with the evaluation of new crop varieties and track agronomic performance while ensuring compliance with relevant industry and regulatory standards.
- Prepare technical records, field notes, data logs and seasonal summaries for internal reporting.
- Oversee and monitor technology systems and devices used to track crop growth and farm performance.
- Participate in pest, weed and disease monitoring programs, reporting any emerging threats and assisting with prevention and control measures.
- Assist with harvest preparation, crop testing and land-use planning, and contribute recommendations on effective farming techniques.
- Provide technical assistance for new agricultural technologies, including automated tools and farm management software platforms.
- Contribute ideas and recommendations aimed at improving farm production systems and operational efficiency.
2. Core Responsibilities
- Ensure accurate and consistent collection of field data and measurements.
- Maintain farm equipment, machinery, sensors and monitoring devices to ensure reliable performance and longevity.
- Collaborate with the Farm Manager to deliver operational requirements during critical seasonal periods such as seeding, spraying and harvesting.
- Promote safe working practices and actively support a culture of continuous operational improvement.
- Work with agronomists, contractors and suppliers to ensure smooth daily farm activities.
- Support environmentally responsible farming practices and efficient resource management.
- Contribute to farm planning and decision-making by providing insights based on field observations and trial data.
3. Skills & Capabilities
- Practical knowledge of cropping systems, plant health management and contemporary agricultural production practices.
- Ability to operate, maintain and troubleshoot farm machinery and precision agriculture technologies.
- Competence in data recording, field sampling and preparation of basic technical reports.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, particularly in field-based environments.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to work independently or collaboratively within a small team.
- Capacity to manage competing priorities during busy seasonal operations.
- Understanding of farm safety standards and correct equipment handling procedures.
4. Qualifications
- Certificate III or IV in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Horticulture, Agricultural Technology, or a related discipline OR equivalent practical experience.
- Valid manual driver's licence (or equivalent).
- Additional licences or tickets for machinery operation (e.g. tractor, forklift, quad bike) will be highly regarded.
ANNUAL SALARY: $80,000.00 to $100,000.00
