About the Team

The Electoral Education section sits within the Communication Education and Engagement Branch (CEEB) at the AEC. The branch brings together skilled communication, education and engagement professionals who work to ensure people are informed about the process of voting in federal elections and referendums and are supported to participate. This includes supporting people who may experience barriers to participation and require additional assistance to participate equitably. This is achieved through the collective work of our sections, covering electoral education, strategic communication, campaigns, community engagement, Indigenous electoral participation, and design.

The section is responsible for the AEC’s school and teacher education program, including programs delivered at the highly regarded National Electoral Education Centre (NEEC) at Old Parliament House in Canberra; DemocraCity, a 3D electoral education game available to schools via an app; online education resources; and a teacher professional learning program.

The adult and community education program delivers learning opportunities with a particular focus on supporting communities that may experience barriers to electoral participation.

The Opportunities

This is an exciting opportunity to join the AEC and contribute to work that has a direct impact on Australia's democratic processes.

Electoral Educators deliver key education programs at the National Electoral Education Centre (NEEC) and welcome schools from across Australia visiting Canberra as part of their civics and citizenship learning experiences. The NEEC accommodates approximately 80,000 visitors annually (mainly Year 5 and 6 students). The NEEC is also exploring the development of digital education program options such as live-streamed and pre-recorded virtual education sessions.

You will deliver engaging education sessions on Australia's federal electoral system, including the House of Representatives, Senate and referendum processes.



You will facilitate interactive learning experiences for students and adult visitors. This includes planning and preparing sessions, setting up learning spaces, ensuring resources and technology are available, tailoring presentations to audience needs, and delivering sessions professionally and effectively. You will be required to learn all programs offered by the NEEC, with the flexibility to work across the operational hours of the NEEC (8:15am – 5:45pm).

You will contribute to the ongoing development, delivery and evaluation of education programs, learning resources and training materials, ensuring contemporary and inclusive educational practices are embedded in all activities. You may also support external engagement activities across a range of events and audiences and contribute to the design, development and delivery of digital learning initiatives. From time to time, you may undertake additional duties or assume responsibility for other functions as directed by the leadership team.

You will proactively identify and respond to issues that may affect outcomes, seek guidance when required and exercise sound judgement in a energetic environment. You will adapt to changing priorities and operational requirements while maintaining a focus on delivering high-quality outcomes.

To excel you’ll have:

We are seeking a motivated and capable professional who can demonstrate the skills, knowledge and experience required to perform successfully in this role, including:

- Demonstrated experience delivering engaging education, training or learning programs for diverse audiences, including children, young people and adults,



supported by strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Proven capacity to coordinate and support the delivery of education programs or events, including managing logistics, resources and competing priorities while working collaboratively with others to achieve outcomes.
- Ability to develop, review and improve education resources or learning materials, using strong written communication skills and an understanding of curriculum or learning framework requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, exercising integrity, accountability and sound judgement to deliver agreed outcomes.

Desirable

- Experience in education, teaching, training or a related field, supported by relevant qualifications and/or equivalent professional experience.
- Knowledge of the Australian Curriculum and experience applying curriculum requirements to the development or delivery of education programs and resources.
- Ability to apply inclusive learning practices to support meaningful educational outcomes for children, young people and adult learners.
- Demonstrated experience designing, developing or delivering education, training or learning products using digital platforms and technologies.
- Knowledge of Australia's federal electoral system, electoral law and electoral processes, or the ability to quickly acquire and apply this knowledge.
