About the role

We are seeking a talented and dedicated Journalist to join the Star News Group team in Warwick, QLD. This is a full-time position offering an exciting opportunity to contribute to quality journalism that informs and engages our community. As a Journalist, you will play a vital role in gathering, investigating, and reporting news stories that matter to our readers. This position is integral to our editorial operations and allows you to make a meaningful impact through compelling storytelling and responsible journalism.

What you'll be doing

- Researching, investigating and reporting on news stories across a variety of topics relevant to the local community and wider audience

- Conducting interviews with sources, witnesses and key stakeholders to gather information and verify facts

- Writing and editing articles, features and news reports for publication across multiple platforms including print and digital media

- Meeting daily, weekly and special project deadlines whilst maintaining high editorial standards and accuracy

- Collaborating with editors, photographers, designers and other team members to develop compelling stories and multimedia content

- Fact-checking and verifying information to ensure accuracy, fairness and adherence to journalistic ethics and codes of conduct

- Pitching story ideas and responding to editorial assignments from senior editorial staff

- Attending news events, press conferences and community gatherings to gather newsworthy information

- Utilising digital tools and content management systems to publish and distribute content

- Building and maintaining relationships with contacts,



sources and members of the community

What we're looking for

- Qualification in Journalism, Communications or a related field, or demonstrated equivalent professional experience in journalism or news reporting

- Strong written communication skills with the ability to write clearly, concisely and engagingly for diverse audiences

- Proven experience in news gathering, research and reporting across multiple platforms or formats

- Excellent interviewing skills and the ability to build rapport with sources and extract relevant information

- Solid understanding of journalistic ethics, media law and codes of conduct within the Australian media industry

- Proficiency with digital tools, content management systems and multimedia platforms commonly used in modern newsrooms

- Robust organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple stories and meet tight deadlines

- Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, fact-checking and verification

- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative editorial team

- Knowledge of the local Warwick community and surrounding region is desirable

- Experience with social media content creation and digital publishing is advantageous
