About the role
The incumbent will work within the Test & Verification team and will be responsible for evaluating the performance, reliability and durability of AVTA-developed products using a diverse range of laboratory, field and analytical test methods.
Testing will encompass the full product life cycle, ranging from component-level development testing through to prototype verification and production acceptance testing.
This role covers all aspects of the test engineering process, including the development of test plans, design of test jigs, setup / execution of tests and the analysis of results.
The successful candidate will be working with a high level of autonomy to translate engineering “test needs” into actionable test plans which generate repeatable, objective test results.
The candidate’s contributions will ensure the performance and reliability of AVTA’s products across the air, land,
and maritime domains.
Your duties & responsibilities include:
- Develop high-quality engineering test plans and procedures.
- Plan, schedule, lead and report on a wide range of engineering test events.
- Provide accurate status reports on the progress of test activities while managing and resolving hardware, schedule or resource conflicts.
- Investigate and report on defects discovered through testing.
- Develop, procure and commission test fixtures and equipment.
- Interpret and apply relevant test standards.
- Engage and manage external test providers and stakeholders.
- Follow company policies and procedures (information security, quality and others as directed).
- Adhere to safe work procedures and contribute to OHS management system.
Skills & Experience
Qualifications
- Degree in Science or Bachelor of Engineering (Mechatronics/Systems/Mechanical/Electrical) and/or
- Diploma in mechatronics, mechanical or electrical engineering
Experience
Essential
- 2-5 years of engineering experience in a qualified environment.
- Experience in working with and troubleshooting complex electromechanical systems.
- Test engineering experience, particularly with respect to physical products / systems.
Desirable
- Experience with common defence / industrial test standards (MIL-STD, DEF(AUST), AS/NZS or equivalents), particularly with respect to thermal, shock, vibration,
EMI/EMC and HALT testing.
- Experience with requirements management software.
- Experience in developing, manufacturing and commissioning of products, prototypes or test equipment.
- Experience in data capture, processing and analysis.
- Experience in the setup and operation of instrumentation and test equipment.
Skills
Essential
- Strong technical writing abilities, particularly with respect to test plans, test procedures, test reports and similar technical documents.
- Broad knowledge base of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Understanding of core systems engineering principles.
- Basic programming / scripting capabilities for the purposes of data processing and test automation.
- Proficiency in basic mechanical design using SOLIDWORKS or equivalent CAD packages, including technical drawing and design for manufacture.
Desirable
- Knowledge of traditional and additive manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of optical systems and principles, particularly with respect to lenses and camera systems.
- Familiarity with the Linux command line.
- Familiarity with applicable statistical methods, such as uncertainty estimation and hypothesis testing.

- A history of personal / hobbyist projects in a technical domain is highly desirable
- Excellent time management skills.
Applicants must have full, permanent work rights in Australia. Compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) is applicable to this role. Applicants must be able to obtain National Police and other related security clearances that apply to the role.
