Watsonia Heights Primary School is a medium sized school arranged in multi-aged classes in Junior, Middle and Upper school. The school operates a number of specialist programs which include: Visual Arts, Physical Education, Mandarin, Science, Library, Computer, Music, Reading Recovery, Enrichment and Language Support programs.

Watsonia Heights places a solid emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy as well as individual development through quality depth and breadth of curricular programs and extra-curricular activities.

At Watsonia Heights Primary School classrooms are situated in three main buildings and outside play areas are extensive.

Selection Criteria

SC1 Demonstrated experience creating and implementing wellbeing referral systems, triaging referrals to services and supports such as student counselling and staff professional development

SC2 Demonstrated experience liaising with and providing services for multiple school stakeholders, such as providing counselling for students, supporting teachers to modify their teaching and learning program to improve wellbeing of students

SC3 Demonstrated experience in supporting staff understanding of trauma-informed practice through behaviour observations and support, including recommendations for strategies to support student mental health and improve behaviour

SC4 Ability to provide professional learning and coaching to staff where necessary, to improve the wellbeing and engagement of students

SC5 Demonstrated knowledge of policies relating to the Child Safe Standards and mental health which guides own practice

Role

Range 4 is distinguished by broader management responsibility, particularly in the areas of finance, human resource and other support functions. Range 4 is responsible for managing a range of functions under a wide range of conditions, subject to the size and complexity of school operations.

Objectives will, generally, be clearly defined; guidelines will be broad and day-to-day direction minimal.



Management responsibility extends to ensuring appropriate support levels are maintained across the school. Range 4 generally provides key support and timely advice to the leadership team and school council and liaises with the general school community, the Department and other government agencies and service providers.

Specialised professional roles will carry a high level of independence and accountability where suitable scope is provided to achieve objectives.

An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee¿s position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

Responsibilities

- Develop a school-wide wellbeing referral system
- Meet regularly with Allied Health Specialists.
- Carry out Functional Behaviour assessments and provide recommendations to staff to improve student wellbeing
- Observe students, analyse wellbeing trend data and provide recommendations for staff to improve student mental health
- Provide counselling for students if deemed necessary by wellbeing referral system
- Provide professional development to staff on understanding behaviour and trauma-informed practice
- Support staff to make environmental modifications to improve student wellbeing, mental health, focus and attention in class
- Attend Student Support Group meetings and support staff to implement strategies following the meeting
- Ensure all external providers deliver the required service.
- Other duties deemed as necessary to support student-specific needs in the wellbeing space
