Civil Leading Hands – Permanent Opportunities Across Brisbane

Smith & Co is seeking experienced Civil Leading Hands to join several established contractors delivering major projects throughout Brisbane and surrounding regions. These are permanent positions offering robust salary packages, company vehicles and the opportunity to develop your career within leading civil construction businesses.

Current projects include road infrastructure, bulk earthworks and landfill works across locations such as Gympie Road, Yarrabilba, Redland Bay, Flagstone and Toowoomba. With significant workloads already secured, we're looking for capable Leading Hands who can take ownership of crews while remaining actively involved in day-to-day site operations.

You'll work closely with Supervisors and site management to coordinate labour, plant and subcontractors, maintain productivity and ensure works are completed safely and in line with project programs.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead civil crews and coordinate daily activities across active projects
- Allocate tasks to Operators, Labourers and other site personnel
- Assist Supervisors with planning upcoming works and daily priorities




- Coordinate plant, materials and subcontractors to maintain productivity
- Monitor works to ensure they are completed according to project requirements
- Provide clear direction and support to crew members throughout each shift
- Maintain quality standards across earthworks and general civil activities
- Identify site issues and communicate them effectively with management
- Remain hands-on and assist the crew when required
- Promote safe work practices and ensure site procedures are consistently followed

What We're Looking For

- Previous experience as a Civil Leading Hand, Senior Labourer or Lead Labourer
- Strong background working across civil infrastructure projects
- Experience with roadworks, bulk earthworks or similar major civil projects
- Good understanding of civil construction processes from initial earthworks through to finishing works
- Proven ability to lead and coordinate civil crews effectively
- Confidence communicating with Supervisors, Operators and subcontractors
- Current Construction White Card
- Relevant RII machinery tickets highly regarded
- Physically capable and comfortable remaining hands-on with the crew
- Reliable, safety-focused and interested in building a long-term civil career
