Strategic Communications Officer – Government / Pacific Programs
Rate: $72.66 – $81.70 per hour + 12% Super
Location: Canberra ACT
Security Clearance: NV1 Minimum

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Strategic Communications Officer to support a significant Australian Government initiative focused on Australia's engagement and partnership with the Pacific.
This is a varied, hands-on communications role combining strategic communications, digital and social media, content development, stakeholder engagement, graphic design and multimedia.
Working within a Commonwealth Government setting, you will help maintain and implement a strategic communications plan supporting the Australia–Tuvalu relationship and associated Pacific mobility initiatives.
You will work closely with government stakeholders in Australia and the Pacific to identify communications opportunities, develop engaging content and ensure messaging is coordinated, accurate and aligned with agreed communications strategies and branding.

What you'll be doing
This is a role for someone who enjoys both the strategy and delivery sides of communications.
Your responsibilities will include:

- Maintaining and updating an established strategic communications plan.
- Developing communications products supporting Australia's development and security partnership with Tuvalu.
- Coordinating communications opportunities across government and with key stakeholders in the Pacific.
- Ensuring communications align with agreed messaging, strategy and branding.
- Managing and supporting social media channels, including content development and forward planning.
- Developing monthly social media content schedules and campaigns.
- Creating designed social media tiles and other digital assets using Adobe Illustrator, InDesign or similar design software.




- Developing content for Australian Government social media channels.
- Monitoring and moderating social media comments and maintaining moderation records.
- Supporting the development of social media moderation policies.
- Drafting and maintaining fact sheets and public information products.
- Coordinating translations of key communications materials.
- Supporting image and video production.
- Developing and maintaining a searchable multimedia library.
- Identifying and developing stakeholder and participant stories, including coordinating interviews and consent processes.

The role will contribute to tangible communications outputs including strategic communications plans, social media forward plans, designed content, fact sheets, translated information assets, multimedia products and stakeholder stories.

About you
We are looking for an experienced communications professional who can take a strategic objective and turn it into clear, engaging and audience-appropriate communications.
You will ideally bring demonstrated experience across several of the following areas:

- Strategic communications planning and implementation.
- Government, international engagement, development, Defence or other complex stakeholder environments.
- Social media strategy, content planning and channel management.
- Writing high-quality communications materials for diverse audiences.
- Stakeholder engagement and coordination across multiple organisations.
- Developing fact sheets,



digital content and public-facing information products.
- Graphic design and content production using Illustrator, InDesign or comparable software.
- Social media moderation and community management.
- Image, video and multimedia content development.
- Interviewing stakeholders and developing engaging human-interest stories.
- Working within established branding, approval and governance frameworks.

Experience relating to Pacific programs, international development, foreign affairs, mobility programs or international engagement would be particularly well regarded.
You will need strong written communication skills, sound judgement and the ability to manage multiple pieces of work while operating within a structured government environment.
Mandatory requirements Due to the nature of the engagement, candidates must:

- Be an Australian Citizen.
- Hold a current Australian Government NV1 security clearance as a minimum.
- Be able to work in Canberra ACT.

Candidates holding a current NV2 security clearance will be highly regarded and given preference.
