SMEC's wider ecology team covers eastern Australia and includes scientists with a long history in producing publications and contributing to industry groups such as the EIANZ.

The role
n
We are looking for a talented Ecologist to join our thriving Queensland and Northern Territory Ecology team.
n
With 4+ years of industry experience, you will bring ecological expertise and a passion for environmental planning. You will work alongside leading specialists, enjoy a collaborative team and work on interesting projects that will expand our impact across Queensland's diverse ecosystems – from grasslands to forest and woodland communities.

What you will do
n
n
- Conduct field-based ecological assessments, including flora and fauna surveys, vegetation mapping, impact assessments, permitting, and long-term monitoring.
n
- Apply project management principles in carrying out assigned tasks and accomplishing project deliverables to the required standard and in a timely manner.
n
- Work on projects ranging from local infrastructure to major state-significant developments.
n
- Travel across Queensland (and occasionally interstate) for site work.
n
n
What you bring
n
n
- A degree in Ecology or a related discipline.
n
- 4+ years' experience in ecological consulting or a similar field.
n
- Experience in flora and fauna survey, assessment, and monitoring.
n
- Excellent communication skills – verbal, written, and interpersonal.
n
- A sound understanding of relevant Queensland environmental legislation.
n
