Job Description
Overview

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll take ownership of projects from concept through to design, manufacture, and final delivery. This is a hands-on, office and factory-based role where you'll collaborate closely with a team of six engineers, experienced shop-floor technicians, and suppliers to deliver machinery that meets and exceeds client expectations. Reporting directly to the GM, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the engineering function during a period of organisational restructure and growth.

Key Responsibilities
n
n
- Lead the design and development of bespoke mechanical systems, ensuring functionality, reliability, and compliance.
n
- Collaborate with customers to create tailored, robust design concepts.
n
- Manage projects across the full lifecycle, including design, manufacture, testing, and delivery.
n
- Work closely with internal teams in automation, electrical, machining, and assembly, as well as external suppliers.
n
- Select and integrate components and systems, including mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic.
n
- Innovate and problem-solve to develop best-in-class packaging automation solutions.
n
n
About You / Qualifications
n
n
- Degree qualification in mechanical engineering or mechatronics.
n
- Minimum 5 years' experience in special purpose machinery design and manufacture.
n
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks, PDM Vault, and Microsoft Excel.
n
- Working knowledge of pneumatic and motion control systems.
n
- Experience in packaging machinery or high-end labelling equipment (highly regarded).
n
- Excellent organisational and time management skills to manage multiple projects.
n
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport across teams and suppliers.
n
- A long-term mindset and commitment to seeing projects through.
n
- Desired extras: Trade background and service technician experience; Familiarity with SAP ERP systems; Experience in mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic integration.
