About The Role
n
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical R&D; Engineer to lead the end-to-end mechanical design of our custom semiconductor manufacturing machines. This role owns the full machine design lifecycle - from concept through detailed design, prototyping, validation, and production-ready equipment.
n
The ideal candidate has a proven track record of taking machines from blank page to operational production equipment, thrives in a rapid-paced, startup environment, and brings a broad skillset across mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing processes. You will collaborate closely with controls, mechatronics, and software engineers to deliver integrated, high-performance manufacturing solutions.

This is a high-impact role,
critical to scaling Syenta's in-house production capabilities and reducing reliance on external vendors.

Responsibilities
n
Mechanical Design & Delivery
n
n
- Lead end-to-end mechanical design of manufacturing equipment, from concept through to production release
n
- Develop and maintain CAD models, engineering drawings, and BOMs
n
- Select materials, components, and vendors; manage procurement for mechanical subsystems
n
- Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles
n
- Conduct tolerance analysis, FEA, and other engineering analyses as required
n
- Support prototyping, commissioning, and continuous improvement of equipment
n
- Contribute to design reviews, documentation, and mechanical engineering standards
n
n
Collaboration & Cross-Disciplinary Integration
n
n
- Work closely with mechatronics, controls, and software teams to deliver fully integrated machine solutions
n
- Communicate mechanical design decisions effectively across teams and stakeholders
n
- Provide technical guidance and input on equipment architecture and systems integration
n
n
Process & Standards
n
n
- Establish mechanical design standards, best practices, and workflows for the team
n
- Maintain high-quality documentation, including CAD, drawings, BOMs, and specifications
n
- Support continuous improvement of design and manufacturing processes
n
n
Requirements
n
n
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
n
- Proven R&D; background with a track record of taking concepts from blank page to working hardware
n
- Proficient in 3D CAD; platform agnostic (OnShape experience advantageous)
n
- Engineering drawings to ISO 2768
n
- Fluent in GD&T; tolerancing - ASME Y14.5 and/or ISO GPS
n
- Tolerance stack analysis
n
- Pneumatics design and component selection
n
- High-precision linear and angular motion system design
n
- Material specification and selection
n
- Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFM/DFA)
n
- Rapid prototyping experience
n
n
Preferred Qualifications
n
n
- Material selection experience in clean-room contexts
n
- Experience with micro-fluidics and viscous flows
n
- Clean-room practices; design for cleanliness
n
- Experience working with metrology frames and vibration-isolated structures
n
- Experience in startups or fast-paced engineering environments
n
- Experience with simulation and analysis tools (FEA, tolerance analysis)
n
- Familiarity with PLM systems, JIRA, or Confluence
n
