Optimising Abilities

Brisbane

At Optimising Abilities, we believe that navigating a world that wasn't built for you is exhausting. For our participants, a Support Worker is the promise of safety, of calm, and of being deeply understood. We are searching for emotionally mature, resilient Support Workers for a unique home care position at our Brisbane location.

This role is dedicated to a highly creative participant with low physical support needs. Because physical demands are low, this role is not about rushing through a checklist of tasks. It is about the slow, profound work of building unbreakable trust, navigating complex emotional landscapes, and executing flawless operational compliance.

The Role & The Workplace

You will be working 1:1 with a participant who has an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) profile. This participant is highly vulnerable, and building rapport takes time, patience, and absolute consistency.

On any given shift, you will be:

Mastering Low-Arousal Support: Using trauma-informed, PDA-specific strategies to navigate demand avoidance without causing anxiety or escalation.

Building Connection: Engaging in creative routines - such as hair styling and art projects to build a steady foundation of trust.

Maintaining the Standard: Executing strict environmental cleaning,

completing meticulous shift reports via the rostering app to track micro-trends in mood, and adhering to compliance and conflict-reporting protocols.

Role Requirements

MUST HOLD: An active NDIS Worker Screening Card (Mandatory).

REQUIRED: A valid First Aid Certificate, CPR Certificate, and National Police Check (or a willingness to obtain these before the commencement of your first shift).

The Resilient Professional: You understand that progress is non-linear. If you spend weeks building rapport and suddenly face a week of rejection, you don't take it personally. You process it, reset, and show up the next day with a clean slate.

The Detail-Oriented Advocate: You understand that a tiny shift in mood can be the precursor to a major event, and you document it accurately. You respect the strict operational boundaries required to keep this specific household running smoothly.

What We Offer: A culture that respects your time. Through our rostering app, all your rosters, shift reports, and support plans are seamlessly integrated into one platform, eliminating administrative friction so you can focus entirely on capacity building and connection. Join us, and help inspire limitless possibilities.
