Azooa is seeking experienced Senior Network Infrastructure Engineers for an upcoming long-term Federal Government ICT engagement in Canberra.

This is a senior, hands-on network engineering role supporting secure enterprise infrastructure, data centre networking, gateway technologies, network performance, capacity management and complex technical troubleshooting.

The prospect is suited to experienced engineers who can operate independently, lead complex infrastructure activities and provide high-quality technical advice to projects, technical teams and business stakeholders.

About the Role

The successful engineers will support the design, implementation, operation and improvement of secure and reliable enterprise network infrastructure.

The role combines day-to-day network engineering with broader infrastructure responsibilities, including secure gateways, virtual service environments, data centre services, capacity planning, technical design, remediation and continuous improvement.

You will work across complex environments where availability, resilience, security and performance are critical.

Key Responsibilities

You may be responsible for:

- Installing, configuring and troubleshooting network hardware and software
- Resolving complex networking issues and service-impacting incidents
- Performing network maintenance, upgrades and patching
- Improving network performance, reliability and operational processes
- Providing technical expertise to projects and business stakeholders
- Supporting secure gateway and network environments
Maintaining and upgrading virtual service environments and supporting infrastructure
- Planning, designing, testing and implementing infrastructure changes
- Supporting deployment of virtual services and associated infrastructure
- Leading technical analysis, planning and performance-improvement activities
- Supporting data centre and secure network services
- Undertaking remediation and enhancement activities across network and gateway platforms
- Delivering major and minor infrastructure project work
- Supporting infrastructure capacity planning
- Managing multiple technical priorities and deadlines
- Liaising with internal teams, vendors and external service providers
- Producing and maintaining technical documentation
- Transferring technical knowledge to internal teams.

We are particularly interested in candidates with strong experience across several of the following areas:

- Network design and architecture
- Routing and switching
- Secure network environments
- Network performance optimisation




- Infrastructure capacity planning
- Secure gateways
- Firewalls
- Proxy systems
- Load balancing
- Intrusion-prevention technologies
- Network remediation and uplift
- Infrastructure integration

You do not need experience across every area listed.

The strongest candidates will demonstrate broad senior-level network engineering capability within complex enterprise or secure ICT environments.

- Firewalls and firewall-management technologies
- SSL gateways
- Load-balancing technologies
- Proxy systems
- IPS
- WAPs
- DNS
- DHCP
- Wi-Fi
- BGP
- EIGRP
- Software Defined Access
- Infrastructure capacity and planning.

Senior Engineering Capability

This is an EL1-equivalent senior engineering opportunity.

Candidates should be comfortable:

- Working independently on complex technical issues
- Providing authoritative infrastructure and networking advice
- Leading analysis and technical remediation
- Investigating availability and performance problems
- Assessing design options and technical trade-offs
- Managing competing priorities
- Engaging with projects, vendors and business stakeholders
- Producing clear technical designs and documentation

Availability, Capacity & Problem Management

The role requires strong operational engineering capability across:

Availability Management

- Improving service and component availability
- Identifying causes of availability breaches
- Initiating remediation and improvement activities

Capacity Management

- Monitoring infrastructure capacity
- Identifying emerging capacity constraints
- Supporting planning and remediation of capacity shortfalls
- Investigating complex infrastructure problems
- Identifying root causes
- Determining appropriate fixes
- Monitoring remediation through to resolution

Systems Design

Strong candidates will also have experience designing large or complex infrastructure environments.

Relevant capability includes:

- Infrastructure and network design
- Impact analysis
- Evaluating design options and trade-offs
- Balancing functional and non-functional requirements
- Designing for availability,



performance and security
- Producing detailed technical specifications
- Supporting implementation against approved designs.

Scripting & Automation

While this is primarily a network infrastructure role, practical scripting and automation experience is valuable.

This may include:

- Developing infrastructure scripts
- Automating recurring operational tasks
- Testing and maintaining scripts
- Automating configuration or validation
- Improving operational efficiency through automation

Technical Documentation

The role requires strong documentation skills and may involve producing:

- Technical Specifications
- As-Built Documentation
- Standard Operating Procedures
- Deployment Guides
- Business and Functional Specifications

Qualifications & Certifications

Relevant networking certifications would strengthen your application, including:

- CCNA
- CCNP
- CCIE
- Equivalent networking or infrastructure certifications.

Security Clearance

- Current AGSVA NV1 clearance is required for this opportunity.

Location & Working Arrangement

The successful contractors will initially work full-time onsite while they develop an understanding of the environment, requirements and project objectives.

Following the initial onboarding period, hybrid arrangements may be considered subject to operational requirements and approval.

Contractors should expect to attend the Canberra office at least 3 days per week once flexible arrangements are approved.

- Initial engagement: Through June 2027
- Hours: Up to 40 hours per week
